  1. Ridiculous draft. I would like to know what round those guys were drafted in.
  2. My league rules state that if you cannot make the draft, it is the responsibility of that owner to find a sub to draft for him. A couple of years ago, this actually happened (the only time in my league's history this happened), and he did a decent job all things considered. If he can't find one, then they have to submit a detailed draft sheet, which we would use to draft his players for him. Tough break, but at least it's just a for-fun league.
  3. IDP league. We had an owner draft DB Darrent Williams the year after he was shot and killed. This guy has won our league three times, but somehow his draft sheet still had Williams on it. The REALLY funny thing is, he must not have crossed him off his list even though we told him Williams was dead, because he tried drafting him again about 10 rounds later. He hears about it every single year before and during the draft.
  4. I'm a Steelers fan, and I can't advocate keeping Mendenhall. But I guess it depends on how strong your other six keepers are. If Colston and Smith and expendable, I'm guessing they are pretty good. Personally, I would rather keep either Smith or Colston, and trade one of them for a draft pick (if that's allowable). The goal is to win now, and those two guys could help you, while Mendenall probably won't be any use this season.
  5. I believe I saw that he is owed $9.5 million in salary for the next 2 seasons. And his current contract gave him a $17.5 million signing bonus ($3.5 million per year). That means he's getting over $8 million per season - which is fair. I don't see the team budging on this one. Pisses me off when players want these big signing bonuses and then they don't count it when they say they are underpaid in the last year or two of a deal. They don't want to consider the fact that they were severly overpaid in year 1 if you include all of the signing bonus.
  6. The guy who took Dez Bryant at 1.07 proclaimed in his pre-draft interview that he intended to draft anyone who has been arrested within the past 6 months. Or something to that extent. Yes, I believe he also drafted Marshawn Lynch. It's a celebrity draft. Celebrity is loosely defined in this case. Pretty much an entertainment-value-only event. I did like that one of the draft spots was a compilation of Sirius XM votes - and they were looking really good through about 6 rounds (Ray Rice, DeMarco Murray, Greg Jennings, Tony Romo, Vernon Davis, Marques Colston), but then they took Sebastian Janikowski in round 7 and their team went to hell. They even selected the Indianpolis defense in round 15.
  7. Agreed. Mine is a PPR re-draft, and I would take Graham mid 2nd, Gronk early 3rd. Hernandez missed time last season and was still the #3 fantasy TE. On a per game basis, he really wasn't THAT far behind Graham and Gronk. The value lies with that dude, as I am seeing him go in the 5th round of mocks.
  8. When my league began using IDP, we started 2 at each position, so that could work. But like papajohn said, there will be a lot of talent still on the waiver wire, especially at LB. We quickly moved to starting 3 at each position. Starting 3 isn't a big difference from starting 2 - just need to have a slightly longer draft sheet.
  9. Can you post the results of the mock draft?
  10. Ryan Mathews, if healthy, will be fine. I'm a Steelers fan, and I have no stats to back this up, but I believe RBs who are capable receivers still do well against Pittsburgh. They are stout against the run-only guys like Michael Turner and Cedric Benson, but players like Ray Rice and Arian Foster still put up good numbers against them. And Mathews has a good QB that can take advantage of that.
  11. What makes it really interesting is if you have, say, RB Adrian Peterson and LB Desmond Bishop playing in the same game. You would usually be thrilled to see ADP bust off a 50-yard TD, but in IDP you would rather have him rush 10 times for 50 yards and a TD in that drive, because Bishop would probably be involved in quite a few of those tackles. If you say you are against switching to IDP, I would suggest watching a replay of an NFL game, and imagine that you have one IDP on each team (just pick a couple of players, like a DE and LB - good players). And you need 10 to 15 points for the win. You find yourself involved in the game more than you normally would be.
  12. Once you get the hang of it, the extra 10 rounds isn't a big deal. We have had a 28-round draft in as little as 3 hours (although we are usually in the 3-1/2 to 4-hour range). And we always take short breaks after rounds 10 and 20 to gather ourselves, relieve ourselves, and re-group. We just reserve a big room in a local bar & grill, so we've got a cute young waitress coming by to take care of our food and drink. The only thing we have to worry about is our team. I had to convince some of my owners to switch to IDP about 8 years ago, but I have been told many times that they would never go back to a non-IDP league. Even a pass defensed is exciting in IDP leagues, and if you happen to get the ultra-rare tackle/sack/forced fumble/fumble recovery/fumble recovery TD, well you just might need to change your shorts afterward.
  13. Can't agree more with Kris N and kpholmes. If you're going to use IDP, you need to go all in. Yes, it makes the draft longer (we do a 28-round re-draft each season), but it just makes your team feel like a real roster. We start 3 DL, 3 LB and 3 DB. Usually, teams draft 3 or 4 at each defensive position to cover bye weeks. We also give weekly cash prizes to the highest scoring team offense AND the highest scoring team defense, so it pays to have studs on the IDP side of your roster.
  14. My league has started 9 IDPs (3 DL, 3 LB, 3 DB) for years, and we love it. Yeah, not all players score big points every week, but when your 3rd DL comes through with a 6 tackle, 2 sack game to give you a 3 point victory, it's just as sweet as if your 1st round pick rips off a 70-yard TD run.
