  1. I've been ticketed every time I've driven through OH except for once. I don't like that state. I see these guys flying down I40 and when I was in my R8 they'd like to play along, usually on less busy roads. It always amazed me to see a guy on 1 wheel at 120 mph. I just did my best not to be behind them, I don't want to have to clean that off my car. The problem with fast cars, and driving fast, is that it becomes second nature. 95 mph in my Macan is just a nice leisurely cruise. I think the bigger issue isn't the celebrity component, it's the youth who come from poverty to middle class and get a contract worth 7 figures. Our first round draft pick Isaiah Wilson joined the Titans and bought a red Aston Martin. He then got caught doing donuts in an intersection. He is just unstable in general and managed to get cut from 3 teams while only playing 1 game in the NFL. My friend brokered his car and tried to sell it to me lol. It was nice but you shouldn't go from Toyota Corolla to a $350k Aston. The guys buying Huracans and Ferraris are far worse.
  2. Yep. I have Herbert and this last season and the off season have reduced his value dramatically. Honestly, assuming a one QB league, I'd almost want Levis as my backup instead of Herbert. While entirely new offensive staff and players makes for an uncertain future, Levis seems to have the grit and he can take a hit - very important in TN. I don't think he'll be an elite, but he could be a solid and somewhat consistent performer. And if the new O line protects him and and everything falls into place, with Hopkins and Ridley, maybe he will put up elite numbers. I'd offer Herbert for Levis and assuming a rookie draft, a 2nd round pick if your bench is as deep as ours. Worst case he says no or counter with a lower draft pick or player. I'd still call that a win this season.
  3. We're a little off topic and probably better for tailgate but since it's off season and it's just us discussing... I have been on various tracks from small local types to sanctioned tracks and proving grounds. The celebrity stupidity is relatively rare compared to the daily stupidity of many drivers. I have been personally told once or thrice to "take it to the track;" always by people who have never been on a track. It is a much different experience. For a bike, I would think it would allow someone to climb near the limits in a safer environment and it's somewhat self selective. You're not going to have a kid on a busa beside a retiree on a Goldwing. Also, you definitely don't go to a good, sanctioned track and just show up and have fun. There is a lot of liability on their end. If someone is just doing that, they are at least getting safety training and it means someone did a lot of legwork for them. Cars are also usually limited by classes so you don't have a 911 turbo with an experienced driver dealing with a novice in their 350z. And if you do, there is often a no passing rule or the novice has an instructor with them (not a free service mind you). Lastly, that track day is just that, a day or even two. Besides the minimum half day you're in briefing or on track, you have to get there and home (trailer the car, or carry and change wheels/tires or plan to burn up your street tires). Conversely, many of us like to meet in groups and then go hit the streets for a little enjoyment. We're the crazy people flying down "back roads." But those of us who do this occasionally also know which roads are relatively clear and free of risk such as other vehicles, bicycles, houses or pedestrians. It eats a few hours at most and we're not pushing the cars the way we would on a track, so far less wear on tires and brakes. Is it legal? No. Is it safe? That's relative although we'd all agree it's less safe than normal driving. And then, sometimes one just gets a hair up their ass and opens it up on the interstate. Same thing, not safe but hopefully the driver knows what their limits are and avoids others. The guys that make the news are usually the 20 somethings who don't know their limits nor their car's limits and do things in traffic.
  4. I see this argument often. Not excusing driving stupid on the street, especially from anyone that doesn't have track time. But tell me, what's involved in setting up a track day. How fast can you go on most tracks? Once you've gone a few laps, is it still wild fun? And does it cost more than driving down the street (in most cases)? Other than the admission to the track and renting it (and the safety staff), what is the cost on the car? You give me a day with good cup tires and by the end I'll have taken off more than 50% of their life and at least 25% of the brakes. Ever replace Lambo brakes? Tracks are VERY hard on cars. Point is, it's not comparable. That said, the general rule for anyone that drove my R8 or Lambo was 1. had to have track time, 2. had to have lost control of a car at least once so you understand you are not invincible, 3. have the ability to buy it if you break it. And I wholeheartedly agree with the last comment. Newer cars have a lot of safety controls so most people have no idea of how the physics change at 140 mph+, until they find out the hard way. First comment is always the same: "I have no idea what happened, but it happened so fast." No Sht. Go back to your SUV please.
  5. Hmm, just now looked up the actual path. No wonder it was lame here, we were hundreds of miles from the path of totality. Damn employees got 1.5 hours of freedom. Next time we have something cool I'm going to find tedious busy work for them to do. Maybe I'll have them retype the OSHA books.
  6. Well that was a lot of meh. Nashville was covered in clouds so we only saw it for a few seconds during breaks. At it's max, 95% total, it didn't even get darker.
  7. my staff convinced me to close clinic for the duration. Since they're the ones that control my schedule, it was just easier to agree. I'll get some work done in the office, probably walk outside, stare directly at it, then go back in and try to work through the blindness.
  8. Based on the similar situations for other WR/RB in the past, I'd bet his contribution will be moderate at best and he'll be gone the following year. He won't learn. Narcissists just don't. They thrive when they're on top then disappear into obscurity.
  9. I think all of us at Huddle should just buy a channel and bid on a specific game/time slot. Or better yet, take hostages and negotiate for say, MNF. Then we all get rich. We'll have to give up someone to go to Prison. I vote the Philly guy.
  10. True. And people like to watch brutal sports. But at least it will hopefully keep players on the field. And it will hinder the defense, potentially leading to higher scoring games, which I think we all like. Now, conversely, I think soccer needs to go in the opposite direction. It'd be a lot more entertaining if the guys going down crying had something to actually cry about.
  11. hmm, my roommate owns a house in Brazil.... Must check in with him
  12. I agree that the rule changes are a PITA but let's be honest, athletes have become so elite that the amount of power and inertia is well beyond what it was years ago. A WR or RB shouldn't have to worry about a career ending injury on every play.
  13. I used to sell newspaper subscriptions door to door in the 80's. Selling the full 7 days with color Sunday was GOLD! The company was a dude that would drive us HS kids around and drop us off in neighborhoods. I swear that guy's other job was pimp, he was creepy. On a semi related note, a company in NJ has my cell phone number listed in some directory and I get calls weekly for people trying to reach them. I've tried to reach the company but their customer service is off shore, lol. I often just ignore the calls but if I'm in a good mood I'll tell the caller the mistake and redirect them to the right directory.
  14. lol, shocking. Has anyone else noticed the prima donna phenomenon seems to be primarily from WR? He had a great season but then his ego outgrew his abilities. I hope he just retires, I don't see him improving and he's not worth the potential toxicity.
  15. I like the idea. We've come to the point where elite players make too much money to risk performing elite plays so they change the rules to encourage more action.
