Outshined
No link or anything, but obviously there is a reason why he was without a team. Any huddlers have any information on this runningback? Also Birk was put on injured reserve today ending the speculation that Zygi wanted him to play this year.
darin3
Another RB in Minnesota? Didn't they have former LT backup Doug Chapman in a few weeks ago? What happened there? Are Bennett, Moore and Williams not enough? Interesting... From what I recall about Lee, he has some decent speed... had a couple of alright outings with the Cowboys in previous seasons. yo mama
Oh, whew. For a second there I wasn't able to figure out which NFL backfield was the most convoluted. At least the Lee signing clears that up for me.

I do not know the reasoning on why they brought him in. Special teams? Kick returns? It has not been posted in the Star and Trib yet. Vikes had interest in Chatman

CaP'N GRuNGe
Is Lee a kick/punt return guy? That's where the need is for the Vikes.
TripleW64
Is Lee a kick/punt return guy? That's where the need is for the Vikes. 958290[/snapback] Lee was used by the Cowboys as a return specialist moreso than a rb. (Parcells did not "trust" him for pass protection. ) He did have a 62 yard KO return against the Vikes in Week 1 last year.
Outshined
Here is a link; He was 7th in the NFC last year for kick return average. Probably not explosive. If he makes the team, it will be on special teams... Anthony Maggio KFAN dot com Vikings center Matt Birk said on Saturday that new owner Zygi Wilf made no implication last week that discussions this week could lead to Birk’s contract being guaranteed for next season in order for Birk to play through pain with a torn left labrum. That was proven correct on Tuesday as the Vikings placed Birk on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. Birk is scheduled to have surgery in New York next week. The move opened up a roster spot for Minnesota, which it immediately used on running back ReShard Lee. Lee was waived by Buffalo on Sunday after originally being penciled in as the backup to Willis McGahee this season. Lee, in his second season out of Middle Tennessee State, was originally signed in 2003 by the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie free agent and played in 14 games for Dallas last season. During the 2004 campaign, Lee carried the ball 27 times for 128 yards and scored his only touchdown of the season against the Vikings in the regular season opener. Lee was also the Cowboys’ leading kickoff return man last season with 41 returns for 964 yards. His average was seventh in the NFC and he had career-long 62-yard returns vs. Philadelphia and at Minnesota last season. Lee fills two holes for the Vikings, as injuries have depleted Minnesota backfield and kickoff return specialists. Vikings coach Mike Tice foreshadowed the move after Tuesday’s morning practice. “We’re scanning the waiver wires, looking at a number of positions to see if there’s anything better out there than what we have,” Tice said. “We’re doing due diligence – most notably the areas where we have injuries.” Although Minnesota’s backfield appears to be a week away from being completely healthy, Lee’s return abilities made him an attractive option to help out on special teams. “Right now I think we’re better than we were at any point we’ve been since I’ve been here,” Tice said. “But I don’t think we’re explosive enough. We need to be more explosive, pop some big returns. We’re still trying to figure out who will be the punt returner and kickoff returner.” Lee will play against Seattle on Friday, although Ciatrick Fason is still expected to get the start. Lee will share carries with Fason, Moe Williams, Adimchinobe Echemandu and Butchie Wallace. Edited August 31, 2005 by Outshined
