Almost ready to commit the ultimate FF sin

I've been in my work league for about 4 years now and this year has been the first where we've had to replace 4 teams.

Well, one of the guys asked was my son-in-law. I didn't ask him, the co-commishs did.

Well we were GIVEN our draft positions this year (usually we draw positions out of a hat) and I wound up with 5th.

So at the start of the draft I sent a LEAGUE WIDE email out announcing that I would be willing to trade my first 2 picks for the first two picks of anyone in the 10th, 11th, or 12th position.

Now this league almost never trades. I've seen maybe 3 in the 4 years I've been playing. Well team 12 (yep, son-in-law) wants to swap. So he announces the trade in a LEAGUE WIDE email (I'm on the road and have limited access to a computer right now). No one complains.

So, round three I make the 3.05 pick and suddenly one of the co-commishs and another owner objects to the trade. Says I'm not playing fairly, if I;m going to trade positions, I should have to trade positions for the entire draft not just the first 2 rounds.

Now I'm pissed, and ready to start picking an all-kicker team.

Dont compromise your values over such a minor deal. Address the complaint, no objections before the draft and how whining over it in the 3rd round is a bit late. Proceed to draft to win and decide your fate in the league at a later time.

IMO, I'd steer clear about the bf/gf thing as well.

Just draft retired and dead players--

Your lineup could be -

QB - Jeff George

RB - Barry Sanders

RB - Fred Lane

WR - Rae Carruth

WR - Herman Moore

WR - Yatil Green

TE - Shannon Sharpe

K - Fuad Reveiz

D - Lions (well, at least they looked dead against the Rams)

I'm not a fan of allowing trades for certain rounds only.  I think it should be for the entire draft.  JMHO.

What if a trade comes up mid-draft?

Heck, in the Faultline draft on Saturday, REZ was undecided on who he wanted in the 6th round, and I knew exactly who I wanted and knew he would not make it to me 6 picks later, so we swapped 6th and 7th round picks only?

Are you suggesting that trading should not be allowed mid-draft, and, if it is allowed, that any trade should involve the entire rest of the draft? THat is sillier than focing teams to trade for an entire draft

please explain this.

Cause if they are accusing you of cheating, but somehow someone is in control of asigning draft spots, that is wrong.

As for your trade, I would rather be in the position you end up with, but to call it unbalanced or unfair is absolutely ridiculous.

However, ruining an FF league is an absolute no-no. There is no reason to punish the rest of the owners because of your beef with 2 or 3 of them. Either find a replacement for yourself, invite the objecting owners to visit this site and see what other hard core ffers have to say about this, convince them of the error of their ways, or suck it up and live with it.

Ruining it for all the people who have nothing to do with this is wrong

I knew who I wanted, I was trying to figure out if the other guy I wanted would make it back to me. I wanted one of 3 qb's and I wanted Benson. My debate was if I took Benson, would one of the qb's come back? Or if I took Benson, would any of the qb's come back. By trading with you, I felt certain I would get both.

We had our draft last Saturday and there were 2 trades during the draft. I was involved in one of them. I knew I could get the player I wanted later in the 2nd Rd so I swapped picks and picked up an extra. Someone else did something similar. It makes the draft more exciting.

No disrespect.....but for someone old enough to have a son-in-law......you are considering some very childish behavior. Suck it up and do your best. Don't pull a weenie move.

You obviously don't visit the tailgate very often.... you want childish behavior, just go there asking how ot get someone who has wronged you back and you will get 50 spectacular answers.

More of a question than comment, shouldn't a trade to move up include another pick.

If I move up to number five shouldn't I have to give up a 10th or 11th etc... In theory the purpose for a serpentine draft is that all the picks are equal.

I think the trade was fine maybe if he paid a price to move up they would have been better with it.

Besides that it was fair, I guess I'm saying too fair. :D

I just found it odd that after 4 years of picking out of a hat for draft positions, we suddenly are assigned positions????

As a footnote to this thread the trade went thru after several other owners saw no problem with it. And after an 8 hours drive home today, I've had time too cool off and am drafting properly.

But this will be my last year with this league, I'm not fond of being accused of cheating/being unfair/or whatever else you want to call it.

Thanks for listening to my rant......

It was. I gave 1.05 and 2.08 and in return I got 1.12 and 2.1. I wasn't fond of my choices at 1.05, so I moved back the first round and moved up the 2nd round, getting the two RBs I wanted.

Depends. In one of my locals, we redraw for draft position every two rounds. I don't know if it's unique, but it's unusual.

The question to be asked: What is in the league rules? Obviously you can trade draft picks or this thread is moot...2)What does the league rules state on vetoing a trade? It appears (without knowing your league rules) that this is a general biatching session and a troublemaker is amongst you all!!

Regardless and in contrast to Puddy's opinion above....what people don't like amounts to sh1t...rules---RULE! For rules to change in favor of opinion, they are voted on before the draft!! :D:D:D:D:D

I feel your pain. One year I made a trade with my father and 2 of the guys freaked out. We ended up backing out of the trade because one of the complainers made it sound like there were a number of owners that thought it wasn't right. It seemed like it was a much bigger deal than it actually was. When it was all said and done, it was just the two individuals that didn't like it. I'm still pissed to this day. We have a rule about unfair trades, were everyone votes. After this happened, I've decided that I'm going by the rules, period!!! And I don't care who's panties get all chewed up.

Just stick to your guns and tell the individual who's complaining to deal with it. (Since this happened, my dad and I joined forces and you'll see the results below) :D

BTW, I didn't mean 'please explain this' as 'why are you beatching about this draft spot assignment'. I meant please explain how a commish decides to assign draft spots to owners without at least one person verifiying that this was on the up and up.

I'm in a few leagues here commished by fellow huddlers and if 'Canes, Big John, Hugh, or Osmo were to tell me "hey you are drafting 9th" I wouldn't question it, becuase i know that they are above board. but I also know for a fact that there is no way in a million years that any of them would just assign numbers to other owners without any verification., roll them bones, outside help etc...

That's your first sign that this is a bullchit league
