darin3
Greetings. Hope you all were successful in Week 3. Big game for the Charger offense. The Charger DEFENSE will have to have a solid effort against the defending champs in order to pull off the upset. The Patriots make very few mistakes on offense, that's no secret. Don't expect the Charger secondary to make many - if any at all - picks on Sunday. DO, however, expect their linebackers to rack up massive tackle totals in controlling Patriot RB Corey Dillon. Linebackers I don't need to tell you that Donnie Edwards is critical to the success of the Charger defense. Against the Giants, Edwards logged 9 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, had a sack and forced a fumble. Expect Edwards to come out with tremendous fire on Sunday. The entire San Diego linebacking corps is worthy of starting in most IDP leagues this week. Even rookie Shawne Merriman, who will be asked to rush Patriot QB Tom Brady, is worth a look in deep leagues. Projected Stats: Donnie Edwards - 9 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles Steve Foley - 2 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 1 sack Randall Godfrey - 5 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles Ben Leber - 3 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles Shawne Merriman - 2 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 1 sack D Line It's hard to say which of the Charger defensive lineman will log the most tackles come Sunday. Should the Patriots get a comfortable lead (or even if they don't), they'll be pounding Corey Dillon most of the day. That leads to the opportunity for the Charger front to make some tackles. If you have to choose between one of the 4 below for your IDP team, you're probably in trouble. Projected Stats: Luis Castillo - 1 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles Igor Olshansky - 1 solo tackle Jacques Cesaire - 2 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle Jamal Williams - 1 solo tackle, 2 assisted tackles Defensive Backs DB Terrence Kiel had a huge tackling day against the Giants, but partially due to the fact that the Giants were throwing the ball a ton to keep up. That, and Jeremy Shockey (Kiel's assignment most of the day) was catching a ton of balls. Don't expect 11 solo tackles again on Sunday against the Patriots. But, after an effort like that, Kiel has to be considered "hot" and certainly worthy of a start as he'll be desperately needed to come up big in order to lead the upset charge. Projected Stats: Terrence Kiel - 7 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 1 pass defended Bhawoh Jue - 2 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle Quentin Jammer - 2 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 1 pass defended Drayton Florence - 3 solo tackles Start/Bench As noted above, you can definitely get away with starting any Charger LB this week. In deep leagues, Leber and Merriman are worth looks. In smaller leagues, Foley, Godfrey and of course Edwards are good to go. Start Terrence Kiel, but don't expect 11 solo tackles. Steer clear of the Charger DL. The Infirmary The official injury report has not come out, so do your own due diligence if you have issues. Igor Olshansky remains with ankle/knee problems and should be avoided. Jacques Cesaire played through an elbow injury, but should be fine in Week 4. Still, avoid him as a fantasy starter. The Water Cooler There's tons of banter about CB Quentin Jammer getting burned (and flagged) every game. There's been talks (not by the team - just rumors) of moving Jammer to FS, but Bhawoh Jue's been playing decent - if not very good - ball. That's all for this week... for those that signed up for other teams' correspondents, feel free to update yours as you see fit. Thanks again...
