I refuse to buy Sutter Home.

Seattle LawDawg
Fixed... I'll pick mine up on Monday... 1187523[/snapback] Not sure about the availability, but I'll throw out this proposal: Replace the Duck Pond with the 2004 Argyle Pinot Noir. The price is comparable but the Argyle is a better Pinot IMO.

Sugar Magnolia
I just had the Duck Pond last week and was not all that impressed. But, a few nights before I had the Ponzi Pinot and it was a killer, so I was comparing it to the Ponzi. BTW, the Duck Pond Cabernet I think is quite good which is why I purchased their Pinot to try. I was pretty drunk by the time I got to the Duck Pond Cabernet so that might have been it. I've had a glass of wine before later in the evening, then run out and buy it and it's terrible. Duck Pond Pinot is $21 where I live, and Ponzi is $31. If anyone has had Ponzi, and knows of a less expensive Pinot with a similar flavor, let me know. I am hard to please since I am not a hugh Pinot fan. I go for the deep reds like Barbara, Zin, Malbec, Charbono, etc. So, it's probably safe to say I'd like the Pinots on the drier side. Seattle LawDawg
If I remember correctly, we decided that the duck pond tasted like a barnyard. Definitely. But, we're in an interesting period right now with the 04s and some 03s still available in the wine shops. The wines from the same vineyards but those two different vintages are very different. In 03, we had a lot more grapes in Oregon and most of the Pinots are more fruit forward. The 04s are a return to the Pinot that I enjoy and view and a traditional Oregon Pinot: more earth, tobacco, leather and not as much in-your-face grape. I like quite a few of the 03s as well, but they were an anomaly for Oregon (as I think the 06s will be). If you're looking for bigger, more oaky Pinots, I'd suggest Archery Summit and after getting Bier's recommendation and trying it: Francis Tannahill (Tannahill used to be the winemaker at Archery Summit).
