College Bowl/Championship experiences..

Well seeing as I am going to the Rose Bowl and it's my first big time game, I was wanting to know what kinds of experiences some of you guys have had. I've been to playoffs baseball, hockey, football, and basketball games, but NEVER to a championship of any level? I get chills watching random sports teams on TV that I don't care about, so I can only imagine what this will be like. So many people are just selling their tickets, which is very tempting, but I just want to be there. Bring on the stories!

Did I already tell you how JEALOUS I am, goddammit?!? OK, I feel better now....my only Rose Bowl championship in person was during grad school in 1996. Rob Johnson and Keyshawn Johnson led a 7-4 (or was it 8-4?) underdog USC team to victory over a highly favored 10-1 Northwestern team led by Coach Barnett.

It was a beautiful day, my wife & I were with another couple (another grad student + his spouse) and were seated in a mixed section of Trojans and Northwestern fans. A very well-behaved group - no insults or beer thrown, etc. We had a great time and the right team won...

I went to the Rose Bowl last year. A good piece of advice is unless you are staying in Pasadena is to park downtown and take the Gold Line into Pasadena from Union Station. It saved us a ton of parking hassles, but you do need to walk about 1 1/2 - 2 miles to the stadium. But it's such a fun event type place you don't realy notice the distance.

I'd imagine that with the USC crowd that's better advice than last year, unless it's raining.

They flew the B2 bomber overhead - slow and LOW - during the National Anthem, and all I coudl say to my friend: "that was worth the price of admission, the game's gravy." And that was quite a game.....

Can't even imagine seeing a college championship game. This one will be incredible. Biggest game I have seen was the Fiesta Bowl last year, and that really was not much of a game (remember Utah killing Pitt)?

Not much of a story, but I was one of the 10 people in Sun Devil Stadium cheering for Pittsburgh. I got REALLY hammered and had the worst hangover since my college days the next morning. Lousy Sam Adams. Called off work the next two days, so it turned out OK.

Enjoy the game!

Went to the 03' Orange Bowl vs USC. Clearly not the result I was hoping for, but the opening kick off was fun as I was drenched in beer the rest of the game. Met a lot of cool Trojan fans, including a few Trojan ladies. :D I won't go there, but it was a very good time, and even though the game sucked for Iowa, the atmosphere was nuts with the entire Pro Player Stadium Parking lot full of Iowa fans as far as the eye could see. It truly was Kinnick South.

2002 Fiesta Bowl in Tempe for my Bucks and Miami, the best game i've ever seen. The wife, two of my brothers and their wives for a week of party and fun. I was at the tailgate with a huge OSU banner marching through Miami territory (scared as Athena) getting shoved a little here and there and met a Miami fan couple based in Seattle Washington that had DRIVEN from Seattle to Tempe to see their Hurricanes, but couldn't afford to get tickets just wanted to support their team. My brothers and i collectively decided to buy them tickets from some scalpers and made their trip. It was great to be able to share that, and he's emailed and called several times over the past several years expressing his appreciation for our gesture.

Bottom line, the BUCKS played the best game in history and the moment will never be forgotten.

Yeah that's a nice thing to do, I wish I had the money b/c I kinda feel bad for most of the UT/USC student body that don't get to attend games like these. It's kinda sad to think that only 2k tickets are going to each student body, oh well? I think we're going to rent a car and drive from Dallas Jan 2nd...maybe the 1st and go kill time in vegas, who knows. lol I'm just excited.

Then I seriously recommend looking into parking at Union Station in downtown Los ANgeles, and taking the Gold Line into Pasadena. You do NOT want to try and park in Pasadena, as it will be impossible or cost way to much.

Droobie can park at my house. Its only an 8 mile walk :D Another idea is to park at the Paseo Nuevo mall in Old Town Pasadena (Colorado and Marengo) and walk the 1 mile or so down to the Bowl. Then continue the party in one of the many fine drinking establishments in Old Town after the game, and forget where your car is....

Wouldn't you expect that place to be packed as well?

Out of towners will be shocked - SHOCKED I tell you - at the parking situation down there that day.
