Gonkis
I've re-read everyone's opinion on the topic of who will make a great NFL RB, whether it be Bush, White, etc. I've also paid close attention to the other past super stars mentioned, i.e. Sanders, Sweetness, etc. You've seen the posts, here and in the pro forum... 215 lbs is too light, 235 lbs is too slow, he runs wrong, he's fragile, etc. I have come to a conclusion: The ABSOLUTE perfect NFL running back can be 221.4 lbs, 6'0.2" tall. All of the rest of them are posers and should be shipped to Europe immediately. Collectively, we are dumb as hell.... but funny.

LiL10(s)ArEaJoKe
WRONG!!! more like 5'10.75" 1249743 I do think up to this point Sanders is the class of the field. But lets not forget about "the" kid from Sealy, TX that might have made an impact at RB in the NFL right out of high school. He's 6'3" 220 lbs. and won league MVP, and ROY honors in the same year. Eric Dickerson has a place in a category with Sweetness and Sanders....... Dickerson had all the tools to be a great NFL RB, size, speed, vision, moves, etc.... He still holds records for attempts by a rookie and Season yardage, and hes in the top tiers in several others. On a side note.......Peterson is not "the" yet, but "a" kid from TX. He has a similar running style not quite the speed, but close, and the same build 6' 2" 220. If AD was draft eligibile I think he goes before Bush.............JMO I'm not saying that Reggie Bush isnt worthy of the 1st overall pick in this years draft, I just think he needs more size to take the pounding that hes gonna receive whe he moves up to the next level. Only question mark in my mind is how long he will will last. Do I get him for 1-5 years, or will he be a RB that I can draft and keep around for 10+ years. There is no doubt he can gain muscle/weight but how will this affect his ruuning ability???? My perfect NFL back is 6'1" to 6'3", 218-230, with 4.4 speed minimum.(I Know Sanders wasnt even close to this, there's an exception for every rule, maybe Bush will be exception #2) Edited January 6, 2006 by LiL10(s)ArEaJoKe

You got me. Speed is sort of important. I'm 6'0", 225lbs. I should call Arizona

The question of "what makes a good NFL RB?" is tough. Lots of talented guys both undersized (Troy Davis) and with plenty of size (Curtis Enis) have failed. It's why the draft is an art, not a science. Ideally, I'd be like the guy to be over 5' 9" and at least 200 lbs, it appears a solid NFL-level RB should run at worst in the mid-4.7s . But there are plenty of undersized guys who've had terrific NFL careers (Sanders was marginal, both Bengals legend James Brooks and Warrick Dunn are well below the weight). Men In Tights
= LT The perfect NFL RB should be able to play all 3-downs, and in all situations. Any RB that cannot do the above should NOT be drafted #1, this goes for fantasy football as well. I want MY RB to not be a specialist. Back to my first point, the perfect RB should be able to run between the tackles, run outside, catch passes, pick up blitzes, throw the ocassional TD pass. I believe Edge said this, "I am an everydown back". The perfect NFL RB should be an everydown back.
rbmcdonald
The ABSOLUTE perfect NFL running back can be..... Collectively, we are dumb as hell.... but funny. 1249601 There is no such think as the perfect NFL running back. The ideal RB is different from system to system. I think the only think that is absolut, is the bigger the heart, the better the RB (in the long run).

Granted, a certain system will help a RB have more success, but the PERFECT RB should be able to adapt to any system.
