Fantasy Football TV shows

Guys/Gals,

We've had several threads over the years here about which fantasy football TV shows work/don't work and why/why not -- Huddle MVP candidate Big John, please feel free to post some of the past ones, as your search capabilities are clearly more powerful than those of us Huddle mortals :D -- but I wanted an update in case there are any shows in your areas that you like.

As a FF fanatic, what would make you watch a fantasy football-related TV show? Timely updates? Draft advice? Start/bench advice? Humor/"lifestyle" stuff about the typical existence of FF fanatics like ourselves? A combo of everything?

Any input will be rewarded with a shiny new nickel.

I guess a little of everything. Injury updates are the best. Start bench are usually not too helpful unless they have some inside info. Otherwise its just a guess.

I do like pieces that are humorous like Meatloaf and that Mark St.Something guy :D

How shiny and how new?

To be honest, I don't watch any shows out there anymore. Most seem to give standard info that anyone that has heard the words 'Fantasy Football' would know. Kinda leaves me cold. So I stay away from all that now.

I WOULD watch the one you and Meat Loaf are on... but I never find out about it until after the fact. :D

all of the fantasy shows I've ever seen suck- that one with Warren Moon & Erik Kramer is a train wreck.

The NFL Network needs to put out a legitimate fantasy show- sans the celebrity picks, and fluff that dominate what we get now.

I would love a show that talked in depth about the weekly match match-ups outside of "Start Shaun Alexander"-boringly obvious- tell us about injuries beyond saying a guy is questionable-did they practice- in what capacity- will they play-will they be limited.

I'd say take Footballinjuries.com online practice reports that they put out on Friday combine that with some of The Huddle's player projections, add in a touch of Fantasy Guru's "Looking Glass" report [where he examines key players based on match ups and wether they are looking better or worse than usual for that particular week] and you've got a show.

The bottom line I guess is that any good show would have to be an hour and would have to cover each and every game with some depth to the coverage- talk about what 2nd WR might go off-IDP stuff would be cool too-

Take any of the subscription sites that I mentioned and put them on air-it's that simple.

Hardcore FFers want hardcore coverage-and if you deliver that you also take care of the casual FFers- err on the side of being comprehensive.

FF tv shows suck. First they are usually recorded earlyier in the week, so sometimes the guys that they recomend aren't even playing due to being injured in practice and such. Most only recommend two or three guys at each position. Well, that is great if you are in a 4 team league, but really how many of us need someone to tell us to start Chad Johnson? These shows are for newbies to FF that play in casual leagues at the office. To any hardcore FF player, they are a waste of time.

Agree with this. Maybe have a 2 hour slot on Wed or Thurs and then a live 1 hour update on Sunday for all current updates.

Things I don't like:

Shows taped too far in advance. They should be live or maybe one day out at the most. Things change too quickly in the NFL.

Too much information on the screen at one time. The shows are usually short and are trying to cover too much ground IMO. Stick with matchups, trends, injuries, sleepers... I don't need someone to tell me to start Tomlinson each week.

Lame celebrity games. I could not care less about whether one celebrity is beating another celebrity in a meaningless fake fantasy competition. Just give me information.

Things I like:

Inside information about each team. Who is in the doghouse? Who has not been practicing? Who is a dark horse producer?

Weekly matchup information that could effect production. Weather. How an offense matches up with a defense.

Injury information. Medical experts or inside information on how an injured stud is healing (and whether is worth keeping).

Input...need more input...

I don't really care...the more info the beter...then I can make my own decisions.

TV wise, I guess I'd say ESPN and the NFL channel in general, but truth be told there are about a half dozen web sites that are significantly more valuable...at least for me...

Names have been withheld to protect the innocent unless the competition is watching. In that case I'd have to recommend the LifeTime network. :D

I pretty much will watch any fantasy show if there is nothing else on. Like others have stated, they are taped way to early in the week. Another thing I do not like is when they get there WDIS questions, they always seem to be really easy decisions that people that know anything about FF would know. It would be nice to have people that know about FF instead of people like the aforementioned Warren Moon and Erik Kramer. Again, Fantasy Fix on cComcast is pretty well done, but taped way to early in the week.

Every time I see the show on FSN, I think of the line "With my first pick in the seventh round, I select one Randy Moss!" There draft advice is top notch - Don't choose someone that has already been selected.

I think that I have only seen the one with Kramer and another one.

A complete joke. They are barely "masters of the obvious."

To do it right, you should probably have it on Sunday morning. And you'd need a couple of geeks to host it - not some retread ex-athlete.

Should anybody be interested, I am knowledgeable, well-spoken and photogenic. :D

Fantasy Fix on Comcast isn't bad, but it is taped pretty early.

Scroll down half the page......

Fantasy Fix, IMHO, is probably the best one, but it is not perfect. It is taped in advance, so the injury info is sometime out-of-date. As another Huddler mentioned, Fantasyguru.com and Footballinjuries.com people do come on this show. I watch it if it's not on too late. This bunch will go out on a limb and pick some true sleepers.

The Ultimate Fantasy Football show (Moon, Kramer and those other two dorks) is definitely a train wreck. They guys are masters of stating the obvious. They're sleeper picks are a joke. Just four guys yelling at the TV. :D:D

Agree. They could do it live, have up-to-date injury info, inactives, breaking fantasy news, all the good stuff. I'm surprised ESPN2, ESPN News or NFL Network haven't done such a show. I think it could be a huge success.

what i definitely would not do is pair up a former pop star who got lucky with one album alongside a geek from a web site to try and dispense knowledge. that just sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen ...

:D

hey, hey, i'm just kidding!

love your show. love it.
