HowboutthemCowboys
ESPN has been doing the top 40 Super Bowl players of all time.I heard Mike and Mike the other day discussing the QB's and it boiled down to ,Montana,Favre,Elway,ok so far so good. Then Brady and Young.Where's Aikman? To me Brady and Young and no mention of Aikman is a joke.Do I have the Homer Blinders on or what? skylive5
Having Elway in there and no Aikman does make that list a bit suspect.
slickvick
What about the blond bomber,Bradshaw.I am by no means a fan of him and I absolutely loathed him growing up about an hour and a half from Pittsburgh.Like him or not he should be top 2. Brady 10-1,225 of 367(61%) for 2493 yds(226 avg) 15 tds and 5 ints  Aikman 10-2,239 of 350(68%) for 3029 yds(252 avg) 22 tds and 9 ints. What gives? And don't even get me started on Steve Young.... If I had to scratch one for Aikman it would be Young or Favre. 1 championship each.

How got in the HOF is beyond me. Must of been some serious bucks passed around..... 1293565[/snapback]     I dont know, maybe its the fact that he had the BEST QB RATING OF ALL TIME....  Now I will fully agree that Aikman should be in the top 5, and Young should not (3 super bowls to 1), but saying Young should not be in the HOF is completely ludicrous!! NinersIn2006!
My top 5: Â 1. Joe Montana (4 SB wins and 3 MVP's, not really debatable IMO) Â 2. Terry Bradshaw (won 4 SB's. May not be the best statistical passer in history, but he has four rings.) Â 3. Troy Aikman (I can't stand the Cowboys, but leaving Troy out fo the top 5 is just as ludicrous as saying Steve Young should not be in the HOF). Â 4. Tom Brady (3 SB wins, 2 MVP's, could end up giving Joe a run for his money by the time he is through) Â 5. John Elway (started slow, but finished stong in SB's. That dive for the endzone in SB 32 against the Pack was remarkable for a man in his late 30's)
Bier Meister
i think you are forgetting how close the 49ers and Dal were those years.... biggest difference imo was emmitt. young was a far superior qb over aikman. with only 1 sb appearance i would find it hard to put him in the top 5.. though his performance was stellar. sunysteelfly76
 Montana  4-0 127.8 ratingBradshaw 4-0 112.8 ratingAikman  3-0 106.7 ratingBrady   3-0  99.9 ratingStaubach 2-2  95.4 ratingElway   2-3  59.3 rating   Elway doesn't belong anywhere near that list. If you include Young you might as well include Doug Williams who threw for 340 yards and 4 TD's in his only Super Bowl.

Pains me to this day to lose 2 straight NFC title games to them.  That said, I can't honestly say that Young was a better SB quarterback than Aikman. Three appearances to one is tough to argue. Yes, Steve Young one of the all time best performances in SB 29, but I dont think that alone gets him into the top 5.  Now if you want to argue who was the better OVERALL QB in their careers, it was Young HANDS DOWN...  Let the debating begin! Azazello1313
gotta admit this is one all-time list elway may not belong on. i think it's his overall cache getting him into the picture there.

Never liked Young. Thought he was a little girl dog the way he forced the 9ers to push Montana out. I'll hold a grudge on that one for years.  As for performance, IMO, average. Eddie bought a team for him that year, and that was the only way Young managed to win it. He came in with a pre-bought SB team. After that, he was average.  Aikman on the other hand had about the same skills, but was a much better Leader on the field. No flashy numbers, just solid. He was drafted on a lousy team and grew with them, taking them to the top.  You want to talk Great QBs, neither qualify as one of the greats but I will always believe Aikman was the better of the two.  Oh, and it's not a Cowboy thing. I was born and raised in the Bay Area, and have been to many 9er games (even managed to make a home game this year ) Edited January 28, 2006 by JoJoTheWebToedBoy
