Chill out is a good thought

The game is over and we will see if there are any repurcussions from it regarding the officiating that was obviously questionable to many people (understatement of the new year I would guess).

I was pleased last night to see that, unlike other years, there were not 11,000 posts made by the winner of the game gloating and twisting the knife. Perhaps some of you do not recall it but the Super Bowl alone is a reason why there is a flood control feature to the board.

I am not saying that the game should not be discussed, it obviously should. I would ask that now that it has happened and we have had our assortment of obligatory sniping, gloating, carping and annual "spewing of invectives" that we all put the gun on the table and take one step back.

My personal thoughts about the game were oddly sad for the first time that I can ever recall. The Steelers are being denied the clear cut " we kicked their ass" stance or even a "close match with the last possession winning" thanks to what people view of the officiating. It is a thrilling time for the fans of the winning team and it is a tragedy in my opinion when there is any reason to have some think that the win was tainted.

As for the Steelers, they won the game. They played their best and won by 11 points. Personally, Bettis and Ward are two of my favorite players who are likeable and great ambassadors for the NFL. I was happy for Ward to get the MVP award because he is largely selfless and a complete football player that went from being a college QB to being a WR and giving 100% in everything he does.

As for the Seahawks, I genuinely feel badly. I will agree that the calls made by the officials could certainly seem to have been made with an agenda against SEA and if I was a SEA fan, I would likely be livid because the entire game was marked by game changing callls that pretty much always went against the Seahawks. This is the one sort of game that I think we would all agree that is the worst kind to have - not producing an undisputed winner based purely on what the two teams did but instead one that had the officials become a recognized factor in the outcome. I certainly do not believe the game was fixed or that the refs were cheating at all. I will admit thinking during the game that the officials were being sort of "advocate judges" and I try very hard to be objective. I think that the penalty on Hasselbeck for trying to make a tackle was one of the most incredible calls I have ever seen made in any game.

Props to Ward for having a great game and to Parker for setting a SB record with his run. And congratulations to all Steelers for notching a championship because their players gave their all and yesterday it worked out to be enough to win. Seattle has nothing to hang their head about with an overall great defensive effort and a solid offensive showing that had many agonizingly close plays.

Again - it is worth discussing this all but let's lower the level of emotion about something that is already in the books. Hopefully the many questions about the officiating will result in something changing for the future because this message board is hardly the only source of disappointment about it and the SB deserves to be the one game of the year that should end with talk about everything other than the officiating.

So props to the Steelers and Seahawks both for playing their best and yes, it sucks that the game was affected by the officials enough that there are fair questions to be asked. But don't take that out on the teams.

"oddly sad" is a pretty good way of putting it. the subpar play of both teams and the ridiculously lopsided officiating gave the game almost a surreal feel. and a bunch of 65 year-olds coming out at half time and jumping around like it's 1965. even the commercials were pathetic. it was more like theater of the absurd than a super bowl.

I am tryin to chill out- I can't. So tough to get to the SB- and to have the refs control the outcome of the game is hard to swallow. I am outraged, and I was during the Ind/Pitt game as well- this is out of control and plainly obvious there is another agenda in regard to the calls. No other explanation. From the reaction around the country, people saw the same thing we Seattle fans did.

Once again, DMD sums it up well!

The better team won.

It is sad that all we are what we are talkin' about is the ZEBRAS. :D

There were sooooo many questionable calls on both sides.

I would be OK with a bad call or two BUT 4, 5, or 6 BAD calls?!?! :doah:

Someone needs to list an impartial list of all the "questionable" calls....

I lost count... :D

I'm going to chill out. I want to enjoy the fact that my Steelers won the Super Bowl but every time I come to the place that I love to hang out I am dragged down.

I know not everyone wants to kick my dog as I seen in the end of one of Menudo's threads that I posted how I felt about this game in, but this place is killing me today.

I would hope the league institutes some kind of different official strategy during the playoffs going forward...a committee of replay officials on any questionable/challenged calls right there real time that are freakin' NFL official rules :D
