Basically all fingers point to Whisenhunt as the Raiders next head coach. There is no other reason Al Davis would wait until after the SuperBowl to hire. Except maybe the fact that he's old and lame.

If Wisenhunt does take over in Oakland, how will he fit in and fare as a coach??

Steeler Homers?

Will he be able to pull them out of this hole?

I'll tell you this much, I am going to be extremely :D when Whisenhunt leaves, as I am pretty sure he is going to get that job. When he came to this team after the 6-10 season in which the Steelers tried to turn into a passing game. He was the one that said they were going to get back to basics. He was the one calling the plays to allow Roethlisberger to slowly develop as a QB. He was also the one who made the calls that had the Indy and Denver defensed confused in the playoffs. I think the guy is a phenomenal Offensive Coordinator, and I know the players absolutely love him. How he will do as a head coach is yet to be seen, because I also thought that Dom Capers and Dick LeBeau were fantastic coordinators, but, they didn't succeed as Head Coaches.

Count on Menudo for a fast Steeler answer  :D

Well, this is better news for Raider homers. Not amazing news. But definetly some more hope. Not that we have a chance of going anywhere against KC, Denver or SD...  :D

While the division is tough.....you have a lot of pieces already in place. You have (arguably) the top WR in the game, a solid QB (we'll see if he stays though), and a very solid and versatile RB. I can't say too much about the defense though....from what I gather there are some holes and it seems time for Woodson to go. (what the hell has that guy done the past 4 years???). As soon as Norv was signed in Oakland I honestly expected him to suck and to only last a couple of years. He doesn't deserve to be a HC, doesn't have the goods for it. I think he was a big part of the problem. Just like Callahan was. All downhill since Gruden...but things could look up very quickly I think.

I agree the offense is looking solid. As long as we have some veteran in there at quarterback, Wisehunt will do a good job with moving the ball. Whether it is Collins, or hopefully even CPep.

The defense is comming together though.

There are a lot of veterans on the line in Sapp, Washington, Burgess and Hamilton.

The Linebackers are led by vet Danny Clark who is solid, and last year's rookie Kirk Morrison was an amazing steal with over 110 tackles. Look for them to go after AJ Hawk, the OLB from Ohio State with the 6/7th pick to make the LB's solid.

Secondary is young, the oldest last year was Schwiegert at 26. This year Schweigert will continue at FS, and hopefully Gibson will come back from injury ok, if not Cooper is a solid tackler. The corners, granted Woodson leaves, will be led by second and third years, Asoumouagh, Fabian Washington, and Reynaldo Hill. Who all learned a lot last year and started to look solid.

Young. But comming together.

Who says Whisenhunt wants that job? Just because it's obvious that Davis wants him and has waited to get to interview him doesn't mean that he takes it.

The Raiders won't come out of any funk until Al sells the team. Unfortunate, but true :D

Whisenhunt would be a scoop. But it won't turn around until that gay Al Davis dude is banished to wander the Mojave for 40 years or so.

Ok, maybe I'm slightly biased, but it's the truth. :D

What makes the HC job in Oakland the most coveted in all of pro sports is the HC gets to wash Al Davis's car, change his geriatric diapers, and sometimes Al doesn't even notice if the HC is a couple of minutes late delivering his 8:00 AM coffee every morning.

Al is brilliant and he has lots of good advice to ensure the coach will be able to do a great job.

What's also nice is that if players have a problem with the HC or any of the coaching staff, Al is right there 24/7 for the players to talk to, he'll be able to step right in and settle the dispute like any reasonable owner should.

Very true, Whisenhunt should stay with the Steelers one more year and wait for another opening rather than a 2 year stint with the raiders.

I disagree. They need a QB. they have a decent OL, Very good WR's, and a Solid RB, with a wildcard type player in Fargas. This would be very enticing to an OC.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that Al Davis is a major drawback to the position. I just think the potential on Offense might be too much of a temptation to someone like Wisenhunt.

Nonsense.

Kerry Collins is a pretty good (not great) QB, and the rest of the Offesne is great.

Coaching changes? Well, Gruden wanted out. Callahan totally self destructed and lost the team from the SB on. Norv Turner? God, I don't know how he even got the gig, he hasn't done a single thing since Dallas' Super Bowl glory (somebody prove me wrong).

Al may be an enormous pain in the a$$, but the coaching changes are no worse than the Detroit carosel. Hmm, bad example...

I also consider Collins solid. Not great, but he's not the problem either. Despite the numerous problems with the team this year, he was 6th in passing yrds (3759), 10th in TDs (20), had 12 INTs but 10 came in the last 9 games of the year, right around the time the whole team sh1t the bed.

Straighten the team out, and he's a SOLID QB, not a great one. But until we get a Manning-type QB in there, I think he'll do fine.
