  • 1 month later...

I've gotten disilusioned with my main dynasty league since some owners forced a vote and decided to change it to a 15 keeper.

http://forums.thehuddle.com/index.php?show...5742&hl=dynasty

I may be interested in a new league. I've been thinking about starting a new dynasty league myself and wouldn't mind getting involved with your league or riding this thread to help me etablish a second one.

Two big big things to know about dynasty leagues if you've never been involved in them before...

First, dynasty leagues can get old and crusty and not much fun to be involved in unless there are artificial incentives forcing teams to trade or shuffle players around. Too often teams don't trade, don't interact. They make waiver wire moves, they shuffle around on the edges. But the heart of the league is stale. You've got to inject things in there to shake up the rosters and force people to pay attention and make active moves.

I'd say go with player contracts... either use a salary cap system and offer player contracts. When the contract is finished that player becomes a FA with various restrictions/compenstaions to the origional team that can be discussed. Or, if you prefer, use the player's actual NFL contract, NFL situation to determine things. I'll go in more detail. things like as TO bounces around the NFL from team to team it ought to force his dynasty owners to cough him up off his roster as well. Again, you've got to shake things up or it'll be ZZZZZZ. At the same time, you've got to find a way to compensate an owner who is losing a player.

I've got lots of ideas already, been thinking about good ways to deal with this. I've seen what's worked and what doesn't. But before I go into more detail, I'd like to see what ideas other folks come up with before I put my fingerprints all over this.

The second big thing is that money dynasty leagues are doomed to get lopsided as moron incompetents mismanage their teams into the toilet then abandon their teams (or collude together to change the rules midsteam as happened to mine). You've got to have a mechanism to help a new owner step into a bottom feeder team with minimal impact to themselves.

I've spent a lot of time sleeping on ideas to solve this situation. My 'solution' (I've never seen it done this way and I'm not married to the idea, just something that I came up with and am putting it out): I think people should always pay for three years, one plus two in advance, and the money be set aside. If any time an owner abandons a team that is 6-8 or better, they are entitled to get their two year deposit back. A team owner abandoning a team that is 5-9 or worse is not eligible for recouping his deposited money if he abandons his team. This way the new owner doesn't feel like he is donating money to the league for a couple of years to take over an abandoned sh*t team.

One more thing... I think the starting lineup you propose is good for a smaller league with maybe a 16 or 18 man roster.

To me, is is too vanilla for a dynamic, breathing dynasty.

In a dynasty league, I want a place to stash the Aaron Rodgers and Jason Campbell type players. I prefer big, big rosters with extra space to set aside rookie prospects. A thin air league that has a 28 man roster and starts 2 QBs, 3 RBS, 6 WRs, 2 TEs, 2 Ks, 2 D/ST is what I'm all about. The winner of the QB battle in Buffalo actually becomes relevant.

Even if you don't like the thin air dynasty, we could maybe have two leagues and I'll help you set up a league as you like. I, for one, would like to get 12 bodies for a thin air dynasty.

Here is a link to my dynasty league Confusion IDP constitution

The template was take from Fusion. There was some tweaks coming up after our 1st season.

This might help you with a template and tweak it to how you want the league to run. I would suggest coming up with some kind of template and get owners to commit via message board, then dive into more details before asking for money.

We have a Taxi Squad for rookies (to stash as mention earlier by Voltaire). We also have contract years assigned with a cap of 90 total years, IR slots, FA period, RFA period, annual money for RFA & FA periods, rookie draft, a fairly large roster (35 active for the season & 12 Taxi Squad, 3 IR)...etc...etc...

Confusion IDP was my 1st dynasty league and it is GREAT!!! :D

Keep this thread updated and you will find managers to join.

I've gotten off the 'maybe' fence... I'm definately going to start up the thin air dynasty league that I (vaguely) outlined above.

It'll be 12/24/or 36 teams depending on interest. It it's 24 or 36 we would have either 2 or 3 multiple copies of each player.

Maybe serpentine draft ... maybe auction format to start ... dunno yet

Starting lineups 2QB/3RB/6WR/2TE/2PK/2D-ST with 28 man rosters

Scoring pretty plain vanilla, like I used in the Interboard League...

http://football8.myfantasyleague.com/2005/...ns?L=13000&O=09 but with all yardage in decimal format... (.1 per yard /not 1 per 10 yards) open to the idea of point per reception. Also would like a safety to be worth 4 pts not 2.

It wouldn't be pure dynasty it would be a 20 keeper and some good players will be pried off of teams and exposed as either FAs or in some sort of way (dtermined either through player contracts with league expirational dates or with their own NFL contract dates, movements) Owners losing players would be compensated some way -probably- we'll kick around ideas how. Maybe they can trade a player or get free agent cash. We'll kick around ideas how it'll all work.

This would be a money league and I outlined my ideas about that above. If you don't like the ideas, we don't need to go by it but I do worry about finding replacement owners for abandoned poor teams and treating them fairly.

Draft date won't be until after the rookie draft at the earliest, when we fill the league we'll start discussing that.

I have lots of experience in seeing what works and what doesn't. I'll flesh out stuff later this (and the post I did above in this thread) is the basics.

Hey Jeff - that idea sounds like fun. I'm really not in a position to add another league to my total this year. My best league is Dynasty Wars I love the format and I love the competion. We have a salary cap. We use the salary cap to issue contracts. When a contract is up, the player is a RFA. We then have a month (April) where we can bid on RFAs with money (doubloons) that we have. It is really a blast.

Hi Tim,

I started a dynasty league 6 years ago -we (I) didn't really know what we were doing and it was kind of boring, no movement at all and trades are rare. Dynasty leagues were rare then we wer one of the first. We didn't put in any way of forcing players off of teams. Players go on a team and stay there for their entire career with no movement other than FA add/drops and the rookie draft. Kinda boring.

The best thing though was the format of doubling up the players onto multiple rosters and that was the idea I used in IBL, we had 24 teams.

Since then I've gotten involved in other dynasty leagues and have a lot more ideas, I'd like another big league and find ways to extract solid players. The league I'm in now will force us to move a player if his NFL contract expires, or he gets released or traded by his NFL team. We are forced to trade the players or lose them to the FA pool. I don't like that, too many one-sided deals and the team looking to move their FA is at a huge disadvantage in any trade negotations. I'd rather auction them.

The way you mention or the way my current league does it are the only two ways I rally know to pry FAs in and stir the pot a bit.
