Vikings still shopping C-Pep

Kevin Siefert of the St Paul Pioneer Press is reporting that the Vikings are shopping Daunte to Baltimore, Miami, and other teams. Sounds like they are going to get more than just a second round pick. St Louis is also a possibility as Linnehan is there and C-Pep prospered under his offense in 2004.

I was a big Daunte fan but he does not want to be in MN anymore so we might as well get something for him. Hopefully we do better than a dud LB and a fast receiver who can't catch the ball. :D:D

Vikings are looking at going in a whole other direction from the rare back and throw it deep, score a lot of points and hope your defense can hold them uner 24 points. Should be an interesting next few years

I dont see it happening with Baltimore. It sounds like the front office isnt willing to give up that much for a guy coming off of a massive injury. Besides, we already have enough problems :doah:

Yeah they mentioned this article on KFAN this morning too. Basiclaly they just hit the major points of the article, saying that it looks like it is really going to happen with one of the interested teams out there, and that they are now looking like they will get more for him than initially thought. Good news all around. I also have been a big fan of Culpepper's and am not happy that he wants to leave, but would rather have players that want to be here.

I am very optimistic about the Childress era in Minnesota! :D

Still don't believe it. :D

Did you believe the Moss trade rumors last year? :D

C-Pep does not want to be here. Why else would he blow off meetings with Childress, rehab at home rather than in MN, where he could spend time with the coaching staff learning the new system, demand a hugh raise after a horrible season/injury. Plus he still has the Love Boat to deal with.

The Vikings will be moving on without Daunte. Hopefully, they can squeeze another year out of Brad. I really don't want to go back to the revolving rehab QB Moon/McMahon/Cunningham days.

Reasons this won't happen:

1. The running game isn't good enough.

2. The WR's aren't good enough.

3. The O-line isn't goog enough.

4. The defense, while vastly improved, isn't good enough to win games without a passing offense.

5. Brad Johnson is not good enough. His mobility will only get worse, and he's bound to get hurt.

Bottom line: If the Vikes go into this season hoping to rely on Brad Johnson, they are setting themselves up for failure. And I don't want to bash Brad, he did a great job backing up Cpep this year, but if the Vikes want to make a run at the playoffs, someone else needs to behind center imo.

True about the Moss rumors last year. And thats the only thing keeping me from going off on all this crap reporting we're subjected to now.

But....you mentioned him blowing off Childress, yet Childress says different. Last week I posted something about this, where a reporter says they haven't talked or met. Childress says not true, we met 3 times over the last 2 weeks. (this is all refering to a few weeks ago) I also mentioned last week where its reported he's not been meeting or talking to the team at all, but yet somehow another story comes out that he has met and demanded more money from the team 3 times. Which is it? He has met with the team or he hasn't. :D

Problem is, Childress is going to bring the same mentality that the Eagles had when dealing with the media. We don't tell you what we're doing. So the media gets all huffy and has to have something to report, so they start reporting this bullshucks.

Show me one article or statement where Daunte has said he wants out of MN. All he said, when asked, is he wants to play where he's wanted. Boom, thats twisted into he doesn't want to play here.

Yesterday in the local papers here there were two articles written about how tight lipped Childress is compared to Tice and McCombs who both just couldn't ever shut up. The articles were critical of this new way of operating and ripped them saying if they want the public to support a new stadium, they better treat them better or they will just lose interest in the team. Yea, right! I ripped off an email to one of these Megan Foxes, saying "bull chit, you won't lose interest, that's your job, the only thing the team is going to accomplish about being tightlipped is you idiots will just make up more bullshucks to fill your pages instead of trying to be accurate"

While I'm excited about the new coaches/owners we have in place this year, I'm dreading this offseason already, just due to all the make up bullshucks rumors the media is going to throw out there every freakin' day. If the team isn't talking to them, where the hell do they get all these freakin trade ideas from? They're must like the writers for the tv show Lost, they're making it up as they go! :D

Lol....don't confuse the MN media with any facts, they're not interested in that.

I laughed my ass off when Linehan signed with the Rams, two days later one Twin Cities Megan Fox reporter was saying he had already made an offer to the Vikes for Culpepper. Sounds right to me, he hasn't even assembled any asst coaches yet, but he's already made an offer to another team for their QB. :D

I agree that the Vikings definitely need a better option at QB than Brad Johnson if they really expect to have anything more than a losing rebuilding year. The Vikings won some games with Johnson last year, but he did not perform very well at all IMO. He's a good backup (not even great, just good) and in no way a starter.

Our RB's will be hit or miss (we'll see who ends up starting).

I think that our WR's could be pretty good (espcially if K-Rob sticks around).

Our O-line will be vastly improved this coming year (Birk's return, Fonoti healthy, plus offseason acquisitions).

Defense still needs help (FA and Draft better shore things up).

Great comment on the local news media. I will say that Siefert tends to get things right.

Whichever way this Culpepper thing shakes out, we are in for a big change in MN. I don't think the Vertical offense that we are used to is going to be around any longer. (which makes the drafting of Williamson even a bigger mistake). I too am excited about the new ownership/coaching staff. We actually might get a new stadium, and a team that we can be proud of. No more late draft picks, boat parties, walking off the field early etc...

I will take a rebuilding year with Brad Johnson, the current NFL allows you to rebuild quickly. The Vikings have a lot of CAP room and they seem to ha ve an owner who will spend some $$.

I don't know why St Louis would need Daunte as they have Bulger already.

Every year, the same old optimism from the Vikes fans. :D

As for the new stadium, the Gophers and Twins are out in front on that. Best case scenario is 2009 for some kind of legislature agreement. The Vikes are locked in by the Rozelle letter until 2011 - unless the NFL renege on it.

As opposed to other fans? Isn't everyone optimistic about their teams' chances 'next year'? There's always hope...of course until the NFL removes the salary cap and then bad teams stay bad for decades while big market teams buy everyone.
