msaint
When was the last time a kicker was considered for a franchise tag? I hope the Pats re-sign him, but for a 20% bump from his $3million, who knows. Belichick has cut popular Pats before, and Vinatieri isn't coming off his best season. Clayton said the Tuna might make a run at him considering the Cowboys kicking woes this past season. Other Pats homers, what's your gut on Vinatieri coming back? I can't imagine him in another uniform but this is the NFL, things happen...

ced1001
I think Adam knows that, while he might get marginally more money somewhere else, he won't get nearly the endorsement money anywhere else. He's got a lot of pub in NE. Here he is beloved by the fans. Anywhere else, he's just a lonely kicker. I think they get something done. He has friends, attends a local church that he plays a part in, and seems to generally like it here. EDIT: Plus...New England women worship the guy. And he's a freakin' kicker.... msaint
Last year.....when the Pats franchised him. 1340075[/snapback] Oh, right...meant to say "...another kicker..." :doah: I don't think they pay to keep him. Gut says he'll end up in Dallas. And ced 1001, you could sub in Johnny Damon's name for Vinatieri, and centerfielder for kicker, and make the same point, and we all know how that turned out. JD was a icon in NE, and will be just another short-haired ballplayer in NYC. AV, however, will be going to a smaller TV market, yes, yet an absolute football hotbed...I thonk he retains his endorsement profile, especially as the "savior" of a position that KILLED that team last year. Vinatieri Is God
I honestly believe the Pats do whatever it takes to keep him (they just don't let him know that). Sure they have cut high profile guys in the past but those have just been one cog in the Belichick machine. He honestly believes he can teach position players to be the best. Unfortunately, you don't teach the clutch kicking like Vinatieri has exhibited.

Bring Back Pat!!!
I don't think it would have come to this had the CBA stuff allready been figured out. The Pats' have franchised AV twice in the past, Belichick knows how important he is to the success of this team, what he doesn't know is how close they are to the cap, whatever that will be. He said he hated this decision, but without knowing if they were going to afford other players after signing him, there was no way he could keep him right now. CaP'N GRuNGe
I'll take either Vinatieri or Vanderjagt in Minnesota. The Pats and Colts can fight over Edinger.
