Jo
WOW is right. You'd think he'd be a lock for a top 10 pick with those #s, but I don't see a team picking that high that would spend the pick on a TE. Maybe the 49ers? The Rams at #11? forever in debt to mo lewis
hed be right for the 9ers...i just see the 9ers trying to trade out of the 6 spot unless somehow ferguson or williams are still there....with 23 mil in cap space, he looks good for denny green at 10 though

His times at the combine today are even better. Edited February 27, 2006 by Randall
Vote Quimby2
Davis looks like a good fit for any of those teams, but they all need serious help on D too. If you are the niners who won't have Peterson anymore do you really take a guy like Davis over say an AJ Hawk? The Rams need big help in their secondary and Arizona, well, they kind of need hep everywhere save wr. Williams/Hawk/V. Young....I could see them going TE. Bubba is the most overrated TE in football, and they know what a TE can do in the WCO. Vote Quimby2
I'd like to add that Ernie Sims did a hell of a job shutting down Davis when they played FSU. Davis did truck one of our corners though on one play, the freshman Tony Carter I believe. On another note, Cromartie was interviewed and said the toughest WR he has yet to face was Chad Jackson. It was Sim's sole job to cover davis and he did. Which was shocking since TE is normally that posistion Mickey Andrews will let run free. See pretty much every game against Miami I guess since he was their biggest/only threat they decided to do something about it. I expect both Cromartie and Sims to light it up at the combine. Cromartie will have to since he didn't play this season.

When Sims was out (FSU does rotate their lbs a lot) I remember them putting a corner on him and rolling the safety over.
Return Of S&B
Just for comparison sake: Kellen "Imma soldier" Winslow Jr Best year in college - 57 catches for 726 yards and eight TDs, averaging 12.7 yards per catch. He ran a 4.62 40yard, and weighed 245lbs. Vernon Davis Best year in college - 51 catches for 871 yards, 6 TDs averaging of 17 Yards a catch last year in 10 games. He ran a 4.38 40yard, bencehd 225 33 times and weighed 253lbs. Davis is the real deal, seeing him play in person at Maryland, I believe he could easily be the next premier TE in the league. Like Jordan use to, Davis would sometimes take over games for the Terps, on offensive side of the ball. As a Terrapin Football season ticket holder, I wouldnt mind seeing him in Silver & Black, joining Jordan in the process. cre8tiff
I'm drafting for the Rams in the mock draft. If he falls to me at #11, I would be sorely tempted seeing those numbers, despite really needing LB help there.

They held him behind Curtis Martin for years (understandably when Curtins was playing well) but Curtis is really getting up there in age. I don't understand why they did that. Randall
From John Clayton posted: Monday, February 27, 2006 Vernon Davis, the tight end from Maryland, was the most impressive player during Monday's workout. The guy is a freak. He's 254 pounds and he ran the best 40-yard time among the tight ends at 4.38. He was also inpressive in all the other drills. He drove defenders downfield 20 yards during some blocking drills. In just about every drill, he did something that drew a wow. The only thing that wasn't as strong was his pass catching, but that's something that he can work on. • Tight ends catching praise: Some coaches and scouts came out of Monday's workouts thinking this might be one of the most impressive groups of tight ends they've seen in a while. Davis, Marcedes Lewis of UCLA, Leonard Pope of Georgia and Anthony Fasano of Notre Dame rank among the best, but Joe Kloppenstein of Colorado had a good combine. Tony Scheffler of Western Michigan worked out well and moved up as a sleeper. • Bunkley impressive: The big winner among the defensive tackles was Brodrick Bunkley of Florida State who ran 4.99 and 4.95 40-yard dash along with bench pressing 225-pounds 44 times. Bunkley looks like a lock for the first round. • Kiwanuka rebounds: Mathias Kiwanuka, a defensive end from Boston College, rebounded from a tough Senior Bowl and ran well Monday. He had 40-yard times of 4.74 and 4.73. • Williams works out: Give credit to Mario Williams of North Carolina State for running even though he's considered a top 5 pick. He weighed in at 6-7, 295 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.76 and looked impressive during his workout. He's considered the best defensive player in the draft. • Incentive to win: The Dolphins tabulated all the incentive bonuses that kicked in from their nine win season in 2005 and found out they will have a little less than $10 million removed from this year's cap. The Dolphins structured a lot of their incentives to a winning season. Nick Saban got hot at the end of the season and finished at 9-7. gilthorp
This is exactly the type of player the Bears need. They will be looking at this kid and Lewis from UCLA very hard.

Goopster24
Davis will be gone before the Bears pick. 1344487[/snapback] Very true but I like him a lot more than any other TE in the draft. That said though, I haven't really seen much of the other guys. I watched a lot of Maryland's games this year. This guy is a stud, plain and simple. It's very true that this guy just took over games on the offensive side of the ball. It was amazing to watch.
Avernus
I'd love for the eagles to trade up out of the 14th spot to draft this kid... 2 TE sets will go perfect with our newfound "running attack"...lol I'll believe it when I see it... but imagine this kid with LJ Smith and Westy....along with one of our mediocre at best WR...or a FA pickup that will be just a little better... using a 2 TE set offense would change the complexity of the WCO and maybe make it better....especially with 2 talents like that at TE.... plus the blocking would be great too....can't hate that...
