NFL labor talks broke off Tuesday three days before the start of free agency, leaving teams and players in a quandary about negotiating new contracts.

Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Association, spent the last three days meeting in New York and Washington with commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

"We're deadlocked. There's nowhere to go," Upshaw said. "There's no reason to continue meeting."

What's Cheney doing? He needs to go hunting with the Upshaw and the head of management.

I hope the union doesn't want an uncapped year for fullblown free agency. Te NFL is doing so well because of parity and revenue sharing. I don't want to see it end up like baseball.

Again, I don't know that the union is necessarily the problem here. The owners supposedly aren't as unified as they have been in the past on revenue sharing issues, especially in regards to how much of a cut the players should get in terms of the new kinds of stadium revenues.

I believe neither party wants an uncapped year.

Hopefully, Tags and Upshaw are doing this to put more pressure on the owners. maybe it's just wishful thinking.... but I swear, if these stinkin rich people can't figure this out, and screw it all up.... like I did with baseball.... I'll quit. They'll never get another dime from me.

Still I believe they offered 56% of gross revenues and the union wants 60.
