Deshaun Foster has been greatly underrated in dynasty formats IMHO ...

I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that the financial package signals quite a commitment to Deshaun signaling good things for his FF future ...

Panthers | Contract update: D. Foster

Fri, 10 Mar 2006 20:50:57 -0800

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports Carolina Panthers RB DeShaun Foster agreed to a three-year, $14.5 million contract Friday night, March 10, that includes a $4.5 million signing bonus. The $14.5 million could end up being worth another $3 million based on escalators and incentives.

It will be interesting to see where he ranks fantasy-wise at the start of next season.  Anyone know of how his leg is healing?  How bad was the injury anyway?

It was a broken ankle and even though I haven't heard anything specifically on how his ankle is healing, I'd imagine the fact that the Panthers signed him to a nice three year deal, speaks volumes about how the ankle is.

How about just sending dollars to donutrun? :D

He may well be a nice fantasy back this coming year depending on what else carolina does in the offseason as right now he seems to be free of a TD vulture or a rbbc sharing arrangement?

He get's his shot, and I can't complain, as durability issues and everything else aside, the kid was drafted to be a feature back. I know he has durability issues, but now he gets the rock from week 1 till whenever. If DF stays healthy, you will see him in the top 5 in NFL RB's and most likely top 5 FF RB's as well. DF does posses elite NFL RB skills, and if the injury bug will stay away, this will wihout question be his break(I hate to use that word with DF) out year. As for the TD vulturing, don't be suprised to see Shelton as the goal-line RB, and taking a few TD's away from DF.

It was pretty standard as far as breaks go, they did surgery to implant screws to stabalize the break, and they said two months, so he should begin rehab and strengthning this month. It was not as severe as Smitty's the year before, so he should be 100% by mini-camps or before.

They better sign their trainer to a 3 yr deal as well because DeShuan will likely be sitting with him at times throughout the season ...seriously if he remains durable for 16 games he can be very productive for the Panthers ...Edge would have been a much better choice and fit if carolina could have afforded him

Even with the signing, I will not be surprised if they draft yet another RB first round. They have a tendency to draft and sign all these good young backs, and do nothing with them.

They most likely won't go RB in the first round, as they still have high hopes for Shelton, and with proper coaching on his technique, this kid could be a monster RB. Foster now gets his shot at the #1 undisputed RB in Carolina, and like I said last year-start him week 1 and let's see how far he can go?? They also like Jamal Robertson at RB as well, they may pick up a RB in the 2nd rd, but I expect a true pass catching TE to be drafted in the 1st rd, and the draft is thick with them this year. With Drew Carter most likely taking over at the #2 WR spot to stretch the feild deep, they need a solid TE to roam the mid feild, leaving Smitty alone to do his thing.

I just picked up Drew Carter off the WW in one of my dynasty leagues... I think he's got some "deep" sleeper potential or next season if he does stay at no2 on the chart. Colbert just doesn't cut it. And every year, there's someone in CAR who steps up... So if Smith does go down again, hello Drew Carter :D ?

Carter's 'deep sleeper" days are over, as I look for him to start on the otherside opposite Smitty, the combination is just to good not have out there, as if you double Smitty, Carter will just roast man on man or a cover two zone. He has blinding speed, and in the PO and close of the reg season, most DB's had to just tackle him and take to PI call, because it was a deep six if they did'nt, and Fox has known this for awhile now, but wanted him 100% healthy. Colbert is a good choice for a possesion WR on 3rd downs, and that is what I expect him to become next year. Smitty and DC are going to light it up next year, and Jake will as well-I, for one am looking forward to it.

That's a hell of a lot of money for a guy who's had durability issues as a backup. I imagine that he'll have even more health problems as a featured back. Not a smar move by Carolina, IMO.

I thought for sure that they'd go after Edge, that apparently isn't going to happen now.

Well, he was drafted orginally to be the starter-so now he get's his shot.

They still must beleive in the development of Shelton-TC should be interesting this summer as well as PS.

I would have liked to have seen them take a chance at Edge.

I will say this, if, and if, Foster stays healthy he will have a monster year.
