Browns | Team wastes no time in signing Givens

Fri, 10 Mar 2006 21:01:46 -0800

Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports the Cleveland Browns wasted no time in free agency by signing free agent WR David Givens (Patriots) to an undisclosed contract.

Wow....1 minute 46 seconds....that's gotta be a record.

If not can we say tempering.  Tempering and oh my god more tempering.

Since none of these FREE AGENTS are on a tearms roster, I'm not seeing how there can be any tampering.

I'm not sure of the rules, but obviously teams have been able to negotiate with players before FA opens, they're just not allowed to sign or make anything official until it does open.

They were not FA until 12:01, and you can't negotiate with them until they are FA ...

Edit to add: Wink, wink ...

I bet this is cover for the tampering -- they probably didn't think it through enough to realize that the cooolness of being the first one signed after midnight would put the full moonlight on the toooo-early talks ... Not that it matters in the long run. He'll sign with the Browns in a couple of days ... Tooo bad, I'd wondered about him for Pittsburgh if we lose AREl.

I didn't think there were still people around that could hack into a Commodore 64.
