Culpepper to Oakland?

Anybody think this might happen? They all seem to be saying Miami right now but I'm thinking it might be too hard for Oakland to resist reuniting him with Moss while throwing Porter and Jordan into the mix. It might hinge on whether they think Moss and Culpepper would be able to look past their falling out in Minnesota.

It would be too funny to truly happen.

eta: with the NFL's dumbest-by-far agent representing him, anytime I see Daunte's latest offseason antics, it's great for recurring hilarity. The ever-growing trainwreck that is 2006 Culpepper-related news never gets old.

The big question for me is.....

If Culpepper gets traded to Oakland, would you rather have Burleson or Porter on your fantasy team?  :D

:D Maybe the Vikes could have traded Culpepper and Burleson to Oakland for Porter.

My Guess is Culpepper will have to agree on a new contract with his new team before a trde will go through.

Dolphins' QB search heats up

By Jeff Darlington

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Sunday, March 12, 2006

DAVIE — The Miami Dolphins' search for a new quarterback intensified Saturday, when an early morning visit to free agent Drew Brees led to lengthy evening discussions with Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper.

The Dolphins are expected to have a new quarterback by the end of today, two sources said. The decision on which quarterback — Brees or Culpepper — will be based on today's meeting with Brees in South Florida.

The Dolphins, who anticipate landing one of the two, began courting Brees shortly after sunrise Saturday, the first day of free agency, a source said.

Coach Nick Saban and General Manager Randy Mueller flew in owner Wayne Huizenga's private jet to Birmingham, Ala., where Brees is rehabilitating his injured shoulder.

After the meeting, Brees boarded a plane at noon to meet with the New Orleans Saints. He was to stay overnight, meet with the Saints again in the morning, then fly to South Florida for a more extensive meeting with the Dolphins.

Saban and Mueller did not want Brees to accept an offer from the Saints without talking to them, the source said, prompting their early flight. New Orleans is expected to offer a large amount of guaranteed money to Brees.

If the Saints offer Brees the right amount of money today, there is a possibility he would accept on the spot. Potential of such a scenario led the Dolphins to engage in discussions with Culpepper, a source said.

The Vikings, who permitted the discussions, are trying to trade the quarterback after a troubled relationship led to the desire to part ways. Since both the Tennessee Titans and the Oakland Raiders have pulled out of the Culpepper sweepstakes, Miami became the front-runner to land him if Brees goes to the Saints, a source said.

Rumors also swirled through league circles that Culpepper, who tore three ligaments in his knee in a game last year, traveled from his Orlando home to meet with the Dolphins in Davie. While those rumors couldn't be confirmed, discussions between the two parties did take place, several sources said.

In the midst of the discussions with both quarterbacks, Saban and Mueller also had time to have dinner with former New England Patriots wide receiver David Givens, who is regarded as one of the top available free agents.

"Chris (Chambers) is a good receiver, just like (New England's top wide receiver) Deion Branch," agent Brad Blank said. "David is able to help his other receivers a lot and he also blocks well for running backs. So I think he'd be a nice fit."

Givens will meet with the Houston Texans today, although Blank hopes that will be all the visits his client needs despite interest from a number of other teams. The Texans, meanwhile, signed quarterback Sage Rosenfels, who was Gus Frerotte's backup in Miami last season.

As soon as the Dolphins decide on a quarterback today, the move will spark the team to make a number of other deals with free agents. The Dolphins are telling interested free agents to remain patient until today.

The Dolphins also met with former New Orleans Saints linebacker Sedrick Hodge on Saturday, and former New England offensive tackle Tom Ashworth will visit the team on Monday. The Dolphins remain interested in former Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Sam Adams, who visited last week after being waived.
