DRAFT PICK

Now that the Saints have signed Brees, what could they get for the #2 pick? I have been listening to Mike & Mike and they keep saying for value the Saints could trade down to get what they need, but never mentioned what they could possibly get. Any idea?

I think they want to trade down to the Jets so they can still get either Ferguson or Williams....and the Jets get their guy in Leinert...

Yeah, I realize that but what is the #2 overall pick worth in value. A #1 & #2, #2 & #3?

depends on where they are trading down to...

they should get the Jets #1, #3 and next year's #2 for the Saints #1 and next year's #3 or something...

unless.....unless...they trade John Abraham in the deal...

that would make sense....they address DE and then hope Ferguson falls to them at 4...

Mike Mayock has a value board and says to move up 2 spots you would get a 2nd and 3rd round pick based on value.

I've mentioned this many times before, but with the Saints - one of the few strengths on the team is DE. We don't need a DE. We have Will Smith and Charles Grant - two first rounders that are doing well.

We are looking at Ferguson or Hawk in the early first - that should be it. If we trade down any further, we'll look at DT or TE maybe.

Did I mention that we don't need a DE? :D

Well Smith was a rookie so we rotated him in with Howard and Grant last year. We didn't even want Howard last year but franchised him to try and trade him (didn't work obviously). We didn't feel we were being offered fair value for Howard. He ended up mad and tanked most of the year last year.

Just because we had Darren Howard on the roster last year doesn't mean we need another DE this year. Basically we have 2 A- / B+ DE's on the roster. We have 35 year old Wayne Gandy at LT and I dare you to name our MLB. Why?

I'm happy with Hawk or Ferguson - either one. I wouldn't terribly mind trading back a little further and getting one of the DT's and adding more picks, but Hawk or Ferguson is my preference.

Ironically, we'd have 3 starting white linebackers if we took Hawk.

Plus Grant played inside some with all three on the field at the same time, or Grant and Howard at DE, and Will Smith as an OLB.

I love this time of year (draft anticipation)!

Methinks there could be a serious poker match here.

Jets can play it that they'd get a QB anyway after Saints pick a non-QB, so they don't offer much to move up. If they like all 3 QBs this is the smart play. But if they absolutely don't want one of them, it's a risk. 'Cuz if the Saints find another trade partner, the Jets would be out of luck getting a QB they want.

Saints can play this in reverse, saying Jets better "pony up" or they will trade further back, and the Jets will be screwed.

It seems to me you could probably pull this trade sooner rather than later (which would probably let the Saints focus on other issues), but it probably won't happen until the Saints are on the clock.

Too bad it's not the Vikings at #2, or else the Jets may get their pick first anyway.
