Outshined
Henderson, team meet; contract still in discussions Kevin Seifert and Judd Zulgad, Star Tribune Last update: March 15, 2006 – 11:56 PM Printer friendly E-mail this story Vikings Vikings, Culpepper couldn’t work out problems The Vikings were discussing contract parameters Wednesday with free agent fullback William Henderson, who said after a visit that he could make a "huge impact" on the Vikings offense. Henderson, 35, has played the past 11 seasons for Green Bay. But like many of the Packers' veterans, he is testing the free-agent market while Brett Favre decides whether to retire. After signing All-Pro safety Darren Sharper, a former Packer, last season, the Vikings this week have signed placekicker Ryan Longwell and had quarterback Craig Nall visit. New offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, formerly a Packers assistant, is reintroducing the fullback position to the offense. "This is definitely a program moving in the right direction," Henderson said. "Coach Bevell gave me a call last week, and I definitely respect him and all he's done. I have a lot of respect for what he can do, and he feels I would fit well into the system. I definitely enjoyed my visit here, and we'll see how things go." Henderson said the Vikings proposed contract numbers to his agent late in the afternoon, but as of Wednesday evening the team had not announced an agreement. Henderson said he has not ruled out returning to the Packers but hopes to decide his future by the end of the week. The Vikings have not used a traditional fullback much for the past two decades, but coach Brad Childress' offense calls for one. Earlier this offseason, the Vikings signed free-agent fullback Joey Goodspeed.
NAUgrad
This would be a good signing if they pulled it off. Taylor is slowly beginning to move up my draft board.
kcmast
I'll be one sad Packer fan if he leaves (and goes to the darn Queens).

Outshined
Its typical for coaches to bring in players that have played with them before and know the system. Knowing what Green has done the last 5 years, I would be happy to have Henderson as Taylors lead blocker. At 35 , he probably won't be around more than a year or two. Henderson's OK, but just because Sharper did well that doesn't mean every cast off will succeed.
