Randall
Play for pay: Rookie guard Will Whitticker was the big winner in the "performance based pay" distribution that is a part of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement. The fund was set up to reward players whose pay doesn't necessarily reflect the amount of time they are on the field. This year, each of the 32 NFL teams received $2.481 million to split between those on the active roster. According to a source with access to NFL Players Association salary data, Whitticker received a lump sum of $212,300, the largest sum of anyone on the Packers and one of the biggest payouts of anyone in the NFL. Whitticker, a seventh-round pick, played in 15 games and started 14, all while making the rookie minimum of $230,000. Next in line in performance pay was center Scott Wells ($135,620), defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins ($117,442), safety Nick Collins ($110,760), linebacker Roy Manning ($97,491), receiver Antonio Chatman ($84,000), safety Marviel Underwood ($83,640), nose tackle Colin Cole ($82,865), tight end Donald Lee ($81,120), fullback Vonta Leach ($74,860), safety Mark Roman ($70,030), receiver Andrae Thurman ($64,878), defensive tackle Corey Williams ($65,280), Lenon ($64,040), running back Samkon Gado ($63,529) and linebacker Nick Barnett ($62,476). muck
I'd imagine the formula would include some of these variables in some way, shape or form: (minimum salary for your tenure in the NFL) (a players' base salary / total base salaries paid by the team for the year) (plays a guy was on the field for / (offensive plays + defensive plays + special teams)) performance based pay pool Edited March 18, 2006 by muck
