ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a four-year, $12 million deal with free agent CB Will Allen (Giants). Included in the deal are guarantees of $5 million.

Good pick up for the 'Phins, he's not the best DB out there but he's quite an inprovement over Howard.

Allen for Madison? Good trade for the Giants. Allen is incredibly overrated.. no ball handling skills and gets burned on a regular basis.

That's exactlly what you get with Madison as well. Oh and throw in lack of tackling ability.

I would say it's a push for both teams.

Stats for the last 5 years . . .

Madison

tackles-212

passes def.-53

INT-10

Will Allen

tackles-288

passes def.-69

INT-8

Both fast. Madison is good in coverage but can't tackle to save his life. Also comes up with a boneheaded penalty at least once a game. Allen drops sure INT's but is a much better tackler.

Will Allen - 4 years $12 million

Sam Madison - 4 years $7.4 million

Madison has some Pro Bowls under his belt and cost $4.6 million less than Allen signed for.  Edge: Giants

Can somebody explain free agency to me? The dolphins release madison for cap restraints than sign, lets say an equivalant player in allen for more money. Couldn't they have just resigned madison for somewhere in the middle of the two figures?
