Tony Richardson visiting Minnesota

I saw a write up today that said Richardson was a "poor pass-receiver" :D

I'd assume he's probably a smidge past his prime, but then again, Neal and Strong have been de-cleating linebackers for about 10 years now and don't appear to have lost anything.

Tony Richardson is a guy I would NOT relish seeing in a Vikes uni.

Tony Richardson turns 35 this year. Neal turns 36 and Strong turns 35. They are all past their prime and their age is a reason why their teams all are letting them go. Great if not unheralded careers by all three as lead blockers but all are seriously old for their profession.

...but all 3 of them led the way for RBs who had superlative seasons this year.

Age might be a concern but they all appear to still be highly effective. Henderson I won't dispute has lost some the past couple years - but still made the Pro Bowl (and AP All-Pro IIRC) in '04. I've always assumed FB, as long as a player still has the strength, is probably the biggest "want-to" position in the NFL. Whomever wants it more at the point of collision wins the battle.

Not sure where this came from. Pulled off a message board...

Full Back Tony Richardson

Q: Are you looking to sign with Minnesota?

A: Yeah, We have a contract on the table. One thing I asked was to be able to go home and absorb everything. I'm going to do that through prayer and talking to my family, you now making a decision like this is obviously a big decision, but they are giving me the opportunity to sleep on it and let them know sometime tomorrow.

Q: Do you like the role of the fullback in this offense?

A: I grew up in the west coast offence. My first five years with Kansas City under Coach Hackett and that's what we ran, a west coast offense. We change a little bit when coach Sanders came in. We talk terminology and it was like it ever left me.

Q: How difficult is the decision to make, when you spent most of your career with one place?

A: It's a big decision. Exactly I spend my first year with the Dallas Cowboys and I thought that was a big decision leaving there for only one year and then going to Kansas City. You know it is a tough decision, but they made it pretty easy today. This is a first class visit from top to bottom. They rolled out red carpet. They have great leadership here. This is a good core of young players here as well as veterans and they have a good football team. Last year was a 9-7 team that could have easily when 10-6 or ever better in the playoffs. That's attractive as well.

Q: You are going to take the night to think about it?

A: I think a decision of the magnitude is the same as choosing what college you're going too? What school you want to send your kids too? Something you defiantly have to pray about. Just have a feeling about it. You want to jump in 110%. You don't want to have one foot in the water and one somewhere else. Through my life I always talk to my family.

Q: You have interest in other teams?

A: Yes, I have interest in other team but this is my only visit, but like I said this is a first class visit. We are just going to have to see what happens in the next 24 hours.

Q: How do you think you role is going to be different from you role here then Kansas City?

A: The biggest thing from a fullback position is at Kansas City the full back is a F position. So really you have 3 guys playing the same position. When in this offense you are a true fullback. Blocking and catching the ball and in certain instances even carrying the ball, which is attractive to a fullback because I probably carried the ball five or six carries.

Q: Do you think your versatility is something why they called you over others?

A: This could be a good thing or a bad thing because there are a number of good fullbacks out there. This is one thing I have. I have great leadership and in pretty much every place I've been and when I was with the Cowboys with Darrell Johnson and Emmit Smith they told me, you just look at just the F or the H position look at them both. This helped me with my versatility because I understand the running back and the full back position. With that I can bring a little more to the table.

Q: Has Kansas City shown any interest?

A: A little bit. I'll kind of leave it at that.
