The Patriots kicking game won't miss a beat this year.  I heard that Bruschi is taking over the kicking duties.

I thought the whole Bruschi joke era was over already?

The most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history is about to be replaced by one of the most clutch placement specialists in the game.

ESPN.com has learned that unrestricted free agent Adam Vinatieri, who provided the winning field goals in two of the New England Patriots' three Super Bowl victories, has reached a contract agreement in principle with the Indianapolis Colts. There remains some work to be done on the contract, but the deal could be completed by Tuesday night.

The contract, if completed, would be a multiyear deal, with a signing bonus of $3.5 million.

Vinatieri would replace longtime Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt, the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL annals, who is also an unrestricted free agent. And the move for Vinatieri is fraught with irony, given the rivalry between the Patriots and the Colts.

A 10-year veteran, Vinatieri, 33, has converted 263 of 321 field goal attempts and 367 of 374 extra point tries in 160 games. He recently visited with Green Bay officials but left without a contract.

Vinatieri ranks at No. 7 on ESPN.com's Top 50 unrestricted free agents list.

It's official. Shortest article I've ever seen on colts.com:

The Indianapolis Colts have reached an agreement in principle with kicker Adam Vinatieri

What a relief. I was seriously worried about our kicking game this season. Now if we can pick up a back in the draft, we'll be set for another disappointing post-season.

Jack Bauer would shoot all of them in the knee with a single bullet then beat them to within an inch of their lives.

And after detectives Green and Fontana picked them up, Jack McCoy would make all three cry like babies on the stand.

Can't bame him for taking the money and running, but shame to lose him. This is like Damon going to the Yankees, but about 1.7 million times worse. His only drawback is not being able to kick it more than 30 friggin yards on kickoffs but maybe Dungy will have someone else kick off and leave the FGs and XP's to Vin.

Sad day, but I wish him luck. Needless to say, he was in great part responsible for the Pats hindquarter-kicking run these past few years.

You guys are better off not over-paying Damon anymore. He's a shell of the player that he was in Kansas City. He can still hit, but he doesn't have the arm or speed to play CF anymore.

Oh certainly. You just hate to see anyone go to the evil Empire. It's like he succumbed to the dark side.

You know, I can take him leaving the Pats, because I know he wants the big contract...but the Colts? That's a knife in the back, right there.

That's how I feel as well.

I can see that the Pats were not happy with his range or kick off dist and even though they set their limit and Adam was able exceed that else where I'm still a little dissapointed....what's next Johnny Damon to the Yankees? :D

(msaint beat me to it)

So who do want Edinger - great at the long ones, iffy where Adam was clutch or Vanderjerk? :D

Isn't Josh Brown still a FA? I'd take him over VJerk or Edinger.

And I had no problem with Damon leaving -- damaged goods, no arm, he and his hooker wife will be swallowed up in NYC. It's the principle I was talking about, like Czar said.
