John McClain from the Houston Chronicle attended Young's workout today. He said on the radio that Young absolutely blew everyone away with his arm strength and accuracy. He said that Young made one throw where he rolled left and threw a 60 yard strike down the sideline hitting the wr in stride that only folks like Elway and Favre can make. He said that Young's workout was fabulous.

edit: I have no link, thats just what I heard McClain say on the radio. He said the Titans have brought their own wr corps down there and will spend alot of time tomorrow with Young. I dont know why everyone has Young in a free fall now, other than the Wonderlic test. McClain says that Young has been administered all sorts of pyschological tests by the Titans and others. I still believe the Titans will take Young unless Leinart is still on the board at 1.3...

Hmmm...that's certainly a different take, albeit from a reporter not a scout. I guess we'll have to wait and hear from more witnesses. :D

Agreed. But McClain usually does a pretty good job. Although he is the NFL beat writer for the Houston Chronicle, he is a weekly guest on sports radio here in Nashville and has done that since the Oilers arrived. He covered the Oilers for the Chronicle for something like 20 years and is very knowledgeable and entertaining about the NFL. I give alot more credit to what he says than Chris Mortenson, but not as much as I would to a scout. But McClain was reporting what some of the scouts there were telling him and according to him, the scouts were absolutely blown away by Youngs performance.

If the Titans like Young so much, maybe if Bush goes 1, D'Brick 2 to NO (assuming no trade is worked out with Jets) then would TEN swap spots with the Jets knowing the Jets would take Leinart and they could get the 29th overall too possibly? Or do they only take Young if Leinart is gone and Leinart is their main guy?

I have no idea, but I do know that Floyd Reese loves to trade down and get more picks. I think that Young's workout today may have elevated him above Leinart but I really dont know. We will have to see what reports are of Leinarts workout. His workout is next week I believe, so I am sure that the Titans still havent completed their evaluations. Rest assured, Tennessee will be taking a QB with a high pick. Which one and if they are willing to trade down any is difficult to say right now...

Young 'impressive' at workout for NFL scouts

By CHAREAN WILLIAMS

STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER

AUSTIN – Quarterback Vince Young had an “impressive” workout for the NFL scouts on Wednesday at the University of Texas.

Young, who is bypassing his senior season with the Longhorns to enter the draft, measured 6-foot-4½ inches and weighed 228 pounds. He ran one 40-yard dash in a hand-held 4.58 seconds.

The Longhorns’ Pro Day attracted 130 scouts and 85 media members.

Young threw 55 passes with five incomplete and one drop. He used four wide receivers. They were Texas teammates David Thomas, Ahmard Hall, Brian Carter and former high school teammate and Idaho player Daniel Smith. Young caught one pass on a trick play.

“I feel like I did a good job. I stayed relaxed, poised and had fun,” Young said. “You hear so much that 'Vince is not working out. Vince is not doing this and that.' I wanted to go out and show them that I am working out.”

The Houston Texans, who have the No. 1 overall pick in April’s draft, sent 10 representatives, including head coach Gary Kubiak. The Tennessee Titans, who pick third overall, sent seven representatives.

“I love this guy. He’s got a big arm,” Kubiak said. “He was very impressive.”

Kubiak said he will attend only two college pro days. The other will be at Southern Cal on April 2.

Other notables attending the workouts were Miami coach Nick Saban, Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy and Cowboys quarterback coach Chris Palmer.

Another coach, Tennessee’s Jeff Fisher, is scheduled to fly to Austin later tonight and visit with Young.

well let's see, why on earth would the jets make that trade? if the titans call offering to swap picks, you know it's because they value young over leinart. if they wanted leinart, they wouldn't even make that call. so if you're the jets what do you have to gain by paying a premium to swap places?

Also, according to the scout Mort spoke with, Young wasn't asked to "make certain throws or execute certain drops".

What a dumbass.

Vince -- meet Aaron Rodgers. He'll talk you off the ledge on draft day.

Give him 3 plays just like in Texas and he'll be fine. :D

Because Tenn could trade down a few spots and still get young or Cutler, and leinart doesnt fall to the Jets at #4. But this is a moot point, Leinart is going #2, either by NY by moving up, or another team moving up to get him.

he was talking about the titans swapping picks with the jets, at 3 and 4 respectively. it would make sense for the titans, if young and leinart are on the the board and they prefer young...but it would make none whatsoever for the jets, and that was my point.

well you would have to sell the fact that you have another trade partner i guess and that you arent looking QB :D

but if I was NY and i didnt trade up to 2 i would stay put at #4

Well, so far, I'm betting the reality of Young's workout is somewhere in between the unfavorable picture painted by Mort (relayed by ESPN Radio) and the totally glowing report from McClain.

So, in essence, his workout probably didn't change anything at all. I'm sure teams will be a little disappointed that he didn't run in the 4.4s, but they'll just remind themselves that he runs a lot tougher than guys who are faster. If he really showed a big arm and good accuracy, he's still probably a top-10 pick.

That said, there's no denying it will take some patience from a coaching staff to acclimate Young to the NFL. If it's true that he didn't take enough under-center snaps at his workout, I'd be more than a little concerned about how long it will take for him to learn it.

I'll be honest, though -- I'm rooting for Young to succeed. I'd still take Cutler before Young (and Leinart, for that matter), but I like Young for who he is. He seems like a good kid with great heart and solid character. Plus, he's fun as hell to watch.

This is going to be a great draft to watch. :D

I think regardless that there is not a NO/NYJ trade. I'll make a small wager (20) with anyone who feels otherwise.
