Flanagan to start for the Texans.

Flanagan received a three-year contract worth $9 million from the Houston Texans, where he will be reunited with assistant head coach and offensive line coach Mike Sherman. He will get a $3 million signing bonus.

Fisher accepted a one-year deal for not much more than minimum salary from the St. Louis Rams. His deal contained a modest signing bonus.

Come on GB sign some offensive linemen.

And the Pack O'Line, which was awful last year....just got worse.

Looks like the Pack is trying hard to make Favre's decision on returning or retiring that much easier.

Brett Favre: "Ted, let me see what you do this off-season to strengthen the team and then I'll let you know if I'm coming back or not."

Ted Thompson: "Brett, you know how our O'Line was really bad last year? I think if we let your Center of 11 years go, that'll be a good move. Oh! and while we're at it, we'll let your reliable 3rd down back walk as well."

Brett Favre: "Where are those retirement papers again?"

I really like this move. While Steve McKinney is a good center, his more natural position is guard. He will likely move to LG and make the Starting O-line look something like this:

RT: Todd Wade

RG: Zach Wiegert

C: Jim Flanagan

LG: Steve McKinney

LT: Chester Pitts/Seth Wand

Its not a head turning O-line, but at least it gives the team at least 4 solid veteran starters.

The Pack is also looking at Cundiff for PK, which could be hit or miss, but might as well try him out for now and cut him later.

The more I look at our situation, the more I think we need Hawk at 5. TT has made some moves, but has been relatively quiet at LB. Putting Hawk and Barnett at MLB and SLB seems like a good choice and then grabbing the best G/C in the second. Maybe Mangold will fall.

Flanagan joined in '98, but Winters was still the man then.

He was drafted by the Packers in 1996. He was injured the first 2 seasons. Was attempted to be traded to the Panthers in 1998, where he failed the Panthers physical, so was sent back to the Packers, where he played until now.

Was the big ten that bad this year that the number one O-lineman is going to drop to the 3rd round.

I've been suprised at how far they are predicting him to drop. I think he won for best interior lineman in college too???

Actually Flanagan was drafted by the Pack in '96, didn't get into any games until '98, and became the starter '99 on.

Yes he was hurt so much early and they weren't sure he'd play. When he did his speed and athleticism made the whole line better.

ESPNEWS just showed that the Packers did sign Cundiff today.

Grab the Gophers center in the 3rd.  I've heard he may drop that far.

That would be good. He would be good in a zone blocking scheme. I hope they do.

Fisher is what he is; I think he can be ably replaced as 3rd down back by the slightly slower Noah Herron. It's not as if Fisher was some sort of gamebreaking weapon a la Dave Meggett or something.

The thing I find odd about the Tony Fisher defection is that the Pack didn't even try to sign him. His preference was to return to GB, but the team made no effort to retain him. Now I realize he has his limitations, but he was a realiable player that knew and accepted his role. My understanding is that he signed for the vet minumum and small signing bonus. It's isn't like it would have broken the bank to keep him. Just hard to understand why they wouldn't want a guy like that around.
