Outshined
From PFT PATS TO PULL OUT A POISON PILL OF THEIR OWN? Case in point. Now that the Seahawks have signed Vikings receiver Nate Burleson to a seven-year, $49 million contract that becomes fully guaranteed if he plays five or more games in Minnesota during any year of the deal, the Seahawks could end up losing kicker Josh Brown if a team signs him to an offer sheet that becomes fully guaranteed if Brown plays five or more games in the state of Washington. By adding several big-dollar phony years onto the end of the deal, there's no way the Seahawks would match. So it's possible that the Seahawks have outsmarted themselves. If a team with a pressing need at the position (such as the Patriots) is willing to give up a seventh-round draft pick, they can get Brown by turning the tables on the Seahawks. Also available for such a maneuver is Seahawks quarterback Seneca Wallace, who would command a fourth-round pick as compensation. bigbadwolf
Way to go PFT, aka Captain Obvious. I'm sure NO ONE else thought that this poison pill crap could get out of hand.
Donutrun Jellies
I can see Josh Brown being worth a 7th rounder for the Patriots. Not tooo many holes to fill, plenty of youthful depth already ...
NoSupe4You
I imagine the state poison pills will be thrown out... that is why Seattle put the second one in the burelson contract.
Randall
This never should have been started. And Snyder hasn't even joined in yet.

Raider.Nation
It may be speculation, but it does raise the point. This could get silly. The NBA has similar problems with guys being traded, refusing to play for that team, and than resigning with another team a week later. Ala Gary Payton. That was the shadiest maneuver I have ever seen from a pro athlete involved in a trade. I really hope the NFL finds a way to curb this kind of behaviour between clubs. Now I don't know what the 'clauses' were in the offer sheet that Hutch signed, but this is just stupidity. to the Seahawks Management... bushwacked
Now I don't know what the 'clauses' were in the offer sheet that Hutch signed, but this is just stupidity. to the Seahawks Management... 1387786 The system obviously needs to be fixed. While the clause in the Hutchinson contract wasn't as blantlantly asinine it had the exact same intent. I have no problem w/ the Hawks giving a FU very much to the Vikings and at the same time sending a message to the league to fix this ASAP. The Seahawks have usually been very smart about their money and obviously structured the contract in a systematic way that won't screw them over if Burleson ends up sucking golf balls through a hose instead of catching passes. Not to mention giving the league a heads up that something needs to be changed. Sure it doesn't help their situation right this very moment with the whole Hutch scenario but the Seahawks like to think in terms of long run. They are looking out for ALL teams in this one. Swiss Cheezhead
Another piece of crap PFT article, that is complete speculation... 1387780 Again...is there something wrong with speculation that's not disguised as something else? I don't think so. I'm sure many of us figured this kind of thing would happen, but that doesn't mean the scenario above wasn't worth mentioning. Personally, I forgot that Josh Brown was a RFA; that fact combined with the poison-pill angle makes for an interesting tidbit. Stop criticizing PFT for no reason. Please. I'm sick of defending them. The title of the thread says: "Another poison pill against the Seahawks" as if it were FACT. There has been no discussion of the Pats making a vindictive move of this sort with regards to Josh Brown in any legitimate source. The article itself was entirely conjecture, and I stated it as such. If you feel like defending PFT, bon appetit, but who are you to tell ME who I can or cannot criticize? I'm entitled to my opinion, Knock it off. Edited March 26, 2006 by Bonehand
