Draft Site

1973 the Vikes drafted a HOFer in the last round. Unfortunately that was baseball HOFer David Winfield.

In the 70's you can clearly see the quality in the Vikings drafts. Chuck Foreman, Fred McNeil, Matt Blair, Jeff Siemon, Ed Marinaro, and Steve Riley. Later in the decade, you can see the effect the drafts had on the team's demise. When you get into the Mullaneys, Duck Whites, and McDoles for the studs of the draft, the team went in the dumper.

The draft makes the team.

#19 Troy Smith Falcons RB USM

Isn't that the pick was traded for Favre?

Desmond Howard at 4.

David Klingler at 6.

Tommy Vardell at 9.

Eugene Chung at 13.

:D That whole first round is full of busts and marginal players.

Man, it's been a long time since the Vikings have drafted a really good Linebacker... I'd love to see them trade up to try to get Hawk (and if they can't get Hawk then just use the higher pick on Cutler). Won't happen, but man it's fun to dream!

Yes, in the 2nd round in 2003.

Yeah, but Henderson hasn't ever come out and dominated. He has shown some promising signs, but I'm talking about a perennial pro-bowl Linebacker.

My brother was a District Manager for a bar in San Diego at the time. He said that Leaf came in with his contract in his pocket and would show it off to the ladies to try to impress them and prove that he was a big NFL star. :D
