Lavar to become a Giant?

Jason LaCanfora, of the Washington Post, reports free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) continued to negotiate with the New York Giants Tuesday, April 4, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

If they structure his contract right, this could be HUGH for the G-Men. Just how do you block Osi AND Lavar comming off the same side?

:D

I think if they get Arrington and draft a LB in the first couple rounds as well, this could be an awesome defense to go along with the good offense. Could be a good year :-)

Arrington would be great but I do have concerns about him. The knock on him is he likes to free lance and not play inside the system. Team defense is more important then individual stats.

As for the draft. I looked at Mel Kipers 4-3 Mock posted on this website and I have a hard time thing that there will be 4 CBs going from 23 to 26 and only 3 LBs in the 1st round. LBs is the strongest position in this draft. There is no way the G-men take a CB over a LB even if they sign Lavar. We lost and sucked after we lost our LBs last yr (mostly when Pierce went down). They only way I see us taking a CB is if Jimmy Williams falls they way Kiper is projecting. Which I don't think that is going to happen.

I agree. I think even if they sign Lavar they should go LB. With the way things were last season, I wouldn't be pissed if they picked LB their first two picks(if value is there of course). They need the depth there. I just can't imagine them taking a CB if the LB's are there. Jimmy Williams could be the exception or maybe Cromartie but even then I wouldn't be too excited. I think LB is the clear way to go.

I'll agree too, I just don't see a CB in the first round. Especially since Kiper thinks that's what we'll do. LB was just so thin for us last year that once Pierce went down everything fell apart. I just don't see Coughlin letting that happen again. I'll say we go LB in the first and WR in the second. We are in desperate need of some young talent that cen develop at WR that can stay healthy enough to make plays for us.

Yeah I assume WR will be a target by round 3 but I think you are right. LB and then WR.

Some fuel to the fire. This is a reply from Jason LaCanfora, the Washington Post reporter who broke this story concerning Lavar and the Giants, to an email questioning the validity of this story.

Hello XXXX. All I can say is the people are very close to LaVar and have had their finger on the pulse of his situation for a long, long time. The Giants say there's nothing to this and nothing is up with LaVar. They say it's been status quo between them and Arrington for weeks. Like I said, we'll see how it shakes down. I'm not saying he's going to be a Giant or anything, and maybe a lot of this is manuevering, but these people still think it's realistic that LaVar could be in NY in 2006 and are encouraged by the way things are going. Hope you have a great offseason. You guys should be having fun with this. It's always exciting to follow an NFL team, eh? Even in the dog days of April.

It sounds to me a lot like this is going to play out much like the Plax saga last year with a ton of rumors flying about until a deal actually gets done. The fact that this has even come up encourages me to believe that LaVar will end up a Giant.

All i can say is add him and a LB in this yr draft would be like.

Atlanta adding Abraham, Kerney, Coleman and drafting if could pull off of course.

Haloti Ngata*, DT, Oregon

or

Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida State

Unreal. U dont have enough lineman to block that kind of rush.

I think Arrington wants to be a Giant. I think the Giants want him but not by breaking the bank. I'd like to see it. Pierce says he wants to play with him again and it frees them up in the draft. I think they would still go LB first round but if a WR or DT they really like is there then they can go there. I don't see them taking a CB 1st rnd with Webster and Madison on board to start even though sounds like Will Peterson is done. I think they'll add a CB 4th or 5th rnd. Likely LB and 1st and adding another one later. I would guess WR and DT in 2nd and 3rd unless there's a LT they are high on as I think they are souring on Petitgout and this may be his last year with them.

What was the big problem with Arrington last year anyway?  :D

Attitude has always been his big problem, but he is a physical speciman who is capable of domination. I would be happy to see him come to my team, but his attitude would keep me from giving him the kind of money his talent dictates.

They also claim that he's not a team player, he freelances too much and he is often out of position. While I have seen some of that in his play, I also think that because of the contract problems he got into with the skins, Danny boy got his panties in a wad and decided to make an example of him. I think you'll find that whoever ends up with him is going to get a dominant outside linebacker for a long time.

Very true, as long as they keep him motivated and happy. If not, he could turn into another problem instead of a solution.

ive seen greenway go after the giants pick in quite a few mocks...i dont think the giants are gonna let that one happen...as far as the the second pick is concern i can see the going after a LT if there is one there...then id love for them to pick up Martin Nance in the third

allthough im not sold on derrick ward either, and dont think jacobs will turn into an every down back so addressing rb after the first few rounds wouldnt surprise me

According to the New York Post today, Lavar and the Giants haven't spoken in 3 weeks and are far apart.

Lavar is the one that is far apart. He has priced himself out of the free agent market. Every team he has visited thinks his asking price is too much.
