3 of Steelers first 4 are primetime games !!! :D

This allows me to be a remote control commander during the 1:00 & 4:00 games.

Week 17 @ Cincy should be a high-impact game.

I remember, we played you guys like 4 seasons in a row in Arrowhead, which is a very tough place to play. It will be nice to have you guys coming into the 'Burgh' for once.

I wonder why the league didn't want the Seahawks to play the Steelers again during the regular season?  :D I would have loved to see that one play out!

Probably because the league schedule rotates which divisions play each other, you newbie momofektard !!!! :D

There was a pre-determined list of opponents estasblished in 2002. And the Steelers are not on the Seahawks rotation this year.

I see... I didn't realize they pre-determine the games that far ahead of time.

Well since I don't think the Steelers will have the same luck getting to the superbowl again next year, I think by the time playoffs come around again it'll be much more interesting to either see the Seahawks play the Bengals or Colts in the Superbowl--assuming the Seahawks even make it back.

Annoying schedule for a Bears fan:

1. Packers games bookended as first game and last game of the season: too much time.

2. Only one prime time game at home: c'mon, this is Chicago. Maybe that flex thing will kick in.

3. Start the season with three divisonal games; could be a great thing or a horrible thing.

We could possibly start 6-1. That's knocking on wood of course.

Ten schedule observations

posted: Thursday, April 6, 2006

Here are 10 quick observations about the 2006 NFL schedule that was released Thursday.

1. The Eagles have the most penalizing closing schedule, playing three consecutive road games in the NFC East -- Dec. 10 at Washington, Dec. 17 at the Giants and Christmas Day at the Cowboys. And if that isn't torturous enough, the Eagles play at Indianapolis Nov. 26, host the Panthers Monday Night Dec. 4 on ESPN and finish at home against the Falcons on New Year's Eve. That's brutal. The only way for them to be a playoff contender is if they get off to a 7-3 or 8-2 start because they can't even figure going 3-3 in those final six games. All six teams are playoff caliber.

2. The other unfair section of the schedule involves the Bears. They have three consecutive road games in the East -- at the Giants Nov. 12, at the Jets Nov. 19 and at the Patriots Nov. 26. The good news is that Chicago has the easiest schedule in football, playing teams with 114-142 combined records. The bad news is the Bears may have to survive a tough road stretch in which they could lose two of three or three straight games.

3. The Saints have no problems playing their first two games on the road and three of their first four. The Superdome wouldn't be ready for games on Sept. 10 and Sept. 17. It even helped getting that extra day so that the stadium wouldn't have to be ready until Sept. 25. The Saints also got a break because the Browns and the Packers, their first two road opponents, had combined records of 10-22 -- not the toughest opening schedule.

4. The NFL flexible schedule will allow teams to have as many as six possible night games. Six teams currently have four -- Dallas, Denver, the New York Giants, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Oakland. Starting in Week 10, NBC can try to move a Sunday afternoon game to Sunday night as long as they give those teams 12 days notice. Fox and CBS each can protect a total of five games in the seven weeks of flexible scheduling, but they aren't allowed to protect more than one a week. That could allow one or two of the six teams that have four night games to get another.

5. The NFL is giving the Cardinals a chance to be a player in the NFC West. Thanks to a new stadium, the NFL is giving the Cardinals a season-opener at home, a novelty they never get. More important, the Cardinals open the season with three NFC West teams, including two at home -- San Francisco and St. Louis. If they could get off to a 2-1 start with Kurt Warner at quarterback and Edgerrin James in the backfield, they may have a chance to be a sleeper team.

6. Of the three teams totally shut out of prime-time football, the Texans might have the best chance to gain a prime-time game or two in the flexible schedule. First, they should have Reggie Bush in the backfield. Second, they have David Carr throwing to Eric Moulds and Andre Johnson. Third, they have a new coach in Gary Kubiak. The other two teams who didn't draw any prime time games were the Titans and the Bills.

7. The two teams most overlooked were the Falcons and the Bucs. The Falcons have only two prime-time games, which is a little bit of a surprise because they have Michael Vick at quarterback. The Bucs' only prime-time game is Monday night on ESPN Nov. 13 against the Panthers. The NFC East might be the most competitive and best draw on television in 2006, but the NFC South shouldn't have to take a back seat.

8. The biggest improvement in the 2006 schedule is how the divisional games balance out. The NFL seemed to pay better attention to spreading out the divisional games instead of having most of them in November and December. The season opens with a great Carolina-Atlanta game. For too many years, the bulk of the divisional games were played in the final two months. This is a much better way to do it.

9. The Bengals are in trouble at the beginning of the season. After facing playoff teams only five times last year, they open with three potential playoff teams in their first four -- at Kansas City Sept. 10, at Pittsburgh Sept. 24 and home against the Patriots Oct. 1. The problem is, Carson Palmer might not be ready for the first month of the season. They better pick up the pace on getting a backup quarterback because right now, they have only Doug Johnson and Craig Krenzel available if Palmer isn't back from his knee injury. The Bengals made the playoffs by getting off to a 5-1 start instead of the usual 1-4.

10. The Giants did get any breaks either. They play the league's third toughest schedule, going against teams with a combined record of 139-117. But four of their first six games are on the road. This is much like the Chargers' schedule, which pretty much made them a 9-7 team last season. The four road games are against the Eagles, Seahawks, Falcons and Cowboys. To go 1-3 against that schedule would be tough.

MORE QUICK HITS

Saints draft preview? Don't count on the Saints taking D'Brickashaw Ferguson by their trade of left tackle Wayne Gandy to the Falcons. Giving away a left tackle for a safety and a low-round pick in 2007 and a safety, Byron Scott, would tip off a draft move for a team that has the second pick in the draft, but that's a wrong read. The Saints drafted Jammal Brown in the first round last year and plan to move him to left tackle. He played right tackle last year. The Saints still like North Carolina State defensive end Mario Edwards.

The Saints aren't actively shopping the No. 2 pick in the first round, but they will be willing to listen to trade offers. Moving down would be a considerable savings for the Saints, but they are doing a wise thing thinking maybe a team will pay a high draft choice price to move to No. 2 to take a quarterback, Vince Young or Matt Leinart.

Pats beat Jets for Jones: The Jets seemed to waffle on safety Tebucky Jones. The Patriots were very decisive and ended up signing him to a two-year, $2 million deal. Jones had been talking about a longer-term deal with the Jets. When those talks broke down, Jones got in contract talks with the Patriots. They responded quickly and offered him a two-year deal with a $300,000 signing bonus. Jones, who was cut by the Dolphins, wanted to play in the Northeast. Getting the chance to play for the Patriots gives him only a one-hour commute from his home in Connecticut.

There's 3.6 billion reasons that there's no bye weeks after week 9.  There are six teams off on weeks 6 and 7.

1407405[/snapback]

You noticed that too?

I'm wondering if this will modify fantasy schedules, where most 12-teamers will play 3 divisional games in weeks 1-3, and the other 3 divisional games in weeks 11-13. With week 3 having byes, and week 10 not, I'm wondering if the 6 fantasy divisional games will be played weeks 1, 2, 10, 11, 12, & 13. :D
