VikesGuy
profootballtalk.com POSTED 8:50 a.m. EDT, April 12, 2006 CULPEPPER TO MISS MOST OF THE YEAR? As speculation continues regarding the question of whether Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper will be ready at the start of the 2006 regular season, we're hearing increased rumblings that Culpepper might not be able to play at all this year. Culpepper is recovering from three torn ligaments -- MCL, ACL, and PCL -- in his right knee, which occurred when he took a low hit from the side in an October 30 game between Culpepper's old team, the Vikings, and the Carolina Panthers. The Dolphins sent a second-round pick to the Vikings last month for Culpepper, who rapidly fell out of favor in Minnesota via his decision to rehab in Florida, his desire for more a lot more money, and his propensity to send out e-mails to the media in his capacity as his own agent. Meanwhile, the Fins are looking for a veteran backup quarterback. They've kicked the tires of Tommy Maddox and are in the running for Lions quarterback Joey Harrington. ******************************************************************** Maybe a second round pick was enough for him. Giants56
Never thought a second round pick wasn't enough. His running ability is likely gone forever which is why I think 2nd rnd was fair value. Then again maybe it was better than fair. Tommy Maddox?? Joey Harrington?? As much as I'd like to see it, I'll hold off on picking the Fins to bypass the Pats. gijunky
Thought it was a little optimistic of CPep to think he would be available at the beginning of the year. Tearing one ligament is 12 - 16 months out of action, at least. Tearing 3 ligaments... Don't see him back this year. If so, then not until late in the year... Would have liked to target Chambers with CPep throwing to him, however. Oh, well...

And if he does come back this season, he wont be close to 100%.
DMD
With a gimpy Culpepper, possibly missing Ricky Williams and having lost both their offensive and defensive coordinators, I am surprised how many people are suddenly annointing the Dolphins as the team to beat in the AFC East. I just don't see it.
thecerwin
I figured Cpep might not play much this year...

MikeTice
Local Dolphin beat reporter on ESPN radio this morning said Cpep is looking like he will play sooner rather than later.
Flip_Side
LOL just the opposite was posted on Fin Heaven yesterday. Culpepper expects to start season Not even a month has passed since the Minnesota Vikings traded him away, but Daunte Culpepper already seems comfortable in his new surroundings. Plus, his rehabilitation from a catastrophic knee injury that ended his 2005 season is going well enough for him to continue hoping he'll be ready when the Dolphins open 2006. "Things are looking good," Culpepper said Monday. "I'm not going to predict, or rush myself or be unsmart about anything about it because I know it's a very sensitive injury. Only a couple people have ever had it and came back from it. I'm just glad to be making the progress that I'm making and hopefully it continues." "Nobody has a crystal ball. Nobody can make a prediction," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said recently at the NFL owners' meetings. "But based on history, the guy is making good progress to come back. ... And as you see his progress being made, it doesn't become a leap of faith to determine whether the guy can come back." Culpepper meets with Dr. James Andrews, the surgeon who reassembled his shredded right knee in November, later this week to assess how the rehabilitation progress is moving along. If Andrews gives him a good report, that'll represent the second cleared hurdle this month for Culpepper, who had misdemeanor lewd conduct charges stemming from a boat-party sex scandal dropped on April 4. "That's all behind me now," Culpepper said. "I'm here now looking forward and I'm glad to be here." Fantasy Jesus
LOL at all the people who actually read PFT and believe what they say.
rhippens
yeah, i get a kick out of these reports based on speculation because there are a couple of things we can't take into account. first is how well the human in question can rehab. 2 people with the same exact injury will not be completely healed at the same time. some of this is physical, 1 of the people having better genes to recover quicker. some of this is mental, a pain threshold that 1 has to overcome during rehab. the other is that it's way early for these guys in their recovery. i've never had a serious injury to a knee, but know people who have. i know they have all said "the exercises in rehab felt great, but once i started {fill in the blank}, then it was painful". so i would say until these guys really start trying things out like dropping back and tossing a ball, nobody but them will really know. Big Score 1
Culpepper says rehab is going fine, still hopeful to play Week 1Posted on Mon, Apr. 10, 2006 TIM REYNOLDS Associated Press DAVIE, Fla. - Daunte Culpepper walked down the auditorium stairs with his cap slightly askew, and what looked like a playbook under one arm. Most importantly to the Miami Dolphins, their new quarterback was smiling - not limping. Not even a month has passed since the Minnesota Vikings traded him away, but Culpepper already seems comfortable in his new surroundings. Plus, his rehabilitation from a catastrophic knee injury that ended his 2005 season is going well enough for him to continue hoping he'll be ready when the Dolphins open 2006. Culpepper meets with Dr. James Andrews, the surgeon who reassembled his shredded right knee in November, later this week to assess how the rehabilitation progress is moving along. Miami Herald Sounds encouraging, but I'd like to see Andrews assessment later this week before getting all warm & fuzzy. One thing for sure, whenever he begins playing, he'll have a knee brace on for awhile. That will certainly limit his scrambling.
HUGH Man
Hopefully this isn't an indication of what might happen to Carson Palmer too. :doah: 1417040 Palmer's damage wasn't as bad as Cpep
Randall
Palmer's damage wasn't as bad as Cpep 1417182 No, not even close. The Vikings wouldn't let any team check his health status before the trade, but afterwards he did pass a physical. Before the trade Culpepper was working out like a bandit. This is probably just gossip. I doubt if the Phins expected big things from him this season anyway. They are building a team for long term success. General medical consensus is an ACL takes 12 months to completely heal. One thing in Culpeppers' favor for beating the 12 month time table, is the position he plays. QB's don't need to plant & cut to the extent of RB's & WR's, so he'll probably be able to come back sooner...albeit with a knee brace. rajncajn
What I find funny about this is the fact that right after Brees went to New Orleans there were rumors about him failing Miami's physical being the real reason they "didn't want" Brees. Yeah, right.

The ACL takes 12 months assuming the other ligaments are well and can take pressure I would assume. His knee is pudding, I would venture a guess of him playing in a game no sooner than week 8. There was a boxer a few years back that was in ungodly good shape - just a machine - he trained in a broken down old gym wearing no socks a pair of shorts and a raggedy old sweatshirt. You may have heard of him. Mike Tyson. Did ok for himself.
