Ah for the days of 1996

The draft class of 2004 for WR's was outstanding all thinks considered though many of those early picks still have not caught on fire yet.

I was scanning through some old stuff when I noticed the 1996 draft class for WR's was not all that bad really:

1.01 Keyshawn Johnson

1.07 Terry Glenn

1.18 Eddie Kennison

1.19 Marvin Harrison

1.24 Eric Moulds

2.01 Alex Van Dyke

2.04 Amani Toomer

2.11 Bryan Still

2.13 Muhsin Muhammad

2.22 Bobby Engram

2.26 Derrick Mayes

3.28 Terrell Owens

3.33 Stepfret Williams

4.15 Reggie Barlow

4.19 Charlie Jones

4.37 Jahine Arnold

5.03 Joe Horn

Of those nine good receivers, wonder why only Harrison and Toomer are still with their same team?

I posted a poll a few months ago asking everyone to rank the wr's from that draft class. Don't forget about Patrick Jeffers who had his career cut short and David Patten was an undrafted FA.

Funny thing is that many people complained that year that the WR class was not that good (other than Keyshawn). :D I am sure that every year there are some rumblings about the guys in that class.

:D I thought the same thing.

And it's too early to judge the 2004 crop. I think some of those guys could break out this year.

Keary Colbert is no slouch... and Rashaun Woods just went to the Chargers and could start in injury replacement the year... or supplant Parker if he really shines. I'd say it's a much better situation than in SF.

None of those guys have had their infamous 3rd year yet.

Sports Illustrated included him as one of the good recievers to come out of that class. Engram's been morte productive then half of the guys highlighted from the 2004 class.

That SI article showed the stats for these guys as well. It's also interesting to note that these guys all knew each other before the draft that year. They had met each other through recruiting visits, playing against each other in high school and college and senior bowl games.

I know that. However, in 1996 there were people (some experts) who stated that the WR class was not as good as previous years.

I thought the same thing. Engram never stacked up eye-popping stats, but his contributions to the effectiveness of the Seahawks' passing game is largely underappriciated. It's just that it wasn't until last year, when he stepped into a starting role, that he became useful for fantasy purposes. I guess that's not totally accurate, as he had some good stats with the Bears back in 88 and 89. But he's never cracked 1000 yards receiving, or double digit TDs, so he's pretty much stayed off most folks' fantasy radar... most folks :D .
