Hmm, I don't know if I'd call Mike Green a quality safety. :D Average maybe...

Veteran, not quality. Guy wasn't even a starter.

That's what I'm talking about... The Bears' rookie, Chris Harris, started in front of Green last year. And he did a much better job than Green ever had.

This speaks volumes about Hamlins recovery.

Or the depth of quality safeties in the draft.

Or both. :D

Hamlin isn't coming back, if anyone is still expecting him too.

Maybe not, but according to the article:

"Over the past five seasons, only middle linebacker Brian Urlacher had more tackles among Bears defenders than Green."

That would certainly indicate he can make plays, more than you can say for Pruitt.

Sando in the News Tribune had this to say:

"Acquiring a safety made sense for Seattle because the team lost FS Marquand Manuel to Green Bay in free agency; also, starting FS Ken Hamlin has yet to prove he can come back from injuries suffered during a fight last season. From the Seahawks' perspective, the idea is to go into the draft without too many glaring needs. This would allow the team to feel more comfortable going the best-player-available route. We do not know whether Green will be a factor here, but he does have starting experience. "

That indicates he's been playing for 5 years. How many other Bears defenders have been with the team that long?

Green was solid, I'm aurprised the Bears traded him, especially because Mike Brown always seems to get hurt at some point.

You can hate on green all you want, but he was a solid, solid 2ndary player. The Bears also have Gray -I think, he got hurt in preseason last year- so apparently they believe in their depth.

The guy averaged 87 tackles a year! That is reasonable playmaking ability, and will certainly help replace Manual.

And you are wrong. Hamlin will be back.

2001 69 tackles

2002 129 tackles

2003 46 tackles

2004 106 tackles

2005 39 tackles

Not that tackles is necessarily the best stat to judge a safety by, but that isn't 87 tackles a year.

Don't get me wrong on this, depth isn't a bad thing, and I'm not against bringing Green in to add some experience back there, but I'm not anticipating that they are bringing him in to start.

I hope I am, I just think it's quite ominous that 6+ months after the injury he still hasn't been cleared to practice.

Green Brown and Gray?

Bears must be clearing cap room - Green was worth more than that.

I'm becoming more and more impressed each pick up the Seahawks get during this offseason... I just wish they saw more leadership potential in Ty Law as well, but then again not signing him won't hurt much either.

I wonder who they will pick up in the first round though? They seem to be after defense mainly, which is a good thing if you ask me.

I will not miss Green, I feel a 6th pick is great its better than cutting him.

maybe will see  Tillman to Safety?????? and CB in round 1????

:D Green wasn't all that. He is slow and blew a lot of coverages. Chris Harris and (a healthy) Brandon McGowan were more impressive than Green last year. Notice how Lovie benched Green in favor of the both? A 6th round definately beats simply cutting him. Nice move by our Bears IMO.

Green was a disaster in coverage and lacked the real speed to make up for his mistakes. Sure, he was a decent tackler and he put up some good stats, but when Chris Harris took over, he never looked back.

Glad they got something for him. This speaks volumes for what they think of McGowan more than anything else, and he never made it out of Lovie's doghouse. Green wasn't bad, but he wasn't great.

I give him 2 years max and once Seattle sees his game speed is lacking, he'll be on the street.

And, they cut Gray--couldn't stop hurting his neck.
