04/28 11:16 Chargers: Vegas wants the Bolts

THE NEWS

Las Vegas has inquired about relocating the Chargers to Sin City, the San Diego Union Tribune reports. Mayor Oscar B. Goodman contacted the team this week, but the Chargers informed him that they are prohibited from talking with other cities until January 1. The city of San Diego has said that they do not have the money to pay for a new stadium and that taxpayers have more important fiscal concerns.

Our View

The idea of any major sports franchise—let alone an NFL team—located in Las Vegas has enormous potential. The cheerleading squad itself is just too exciting for words. This of course is just in the incipient stages, but we'll keep you abreast of the ongoing developments.

Some populations from the 2000 Census:

San Diego - 1.2M

Jacksonville - 735K

Las Vegas - 478K

Buffalo - 292K

Green Bay - 102K

Ya gotta go by metro population. Most of the people who buy season tickets live in the suburbs.

Las Vegas metro is over 1.6 million

San Diego 3 mil

Jacksonville 1.2 mil

Buffalo 1.1 mil

Green Bay just doesn't count (195k)

Cincinnati 2.1 mil

Pittsburgh 2.3 mil

Ah, first of all, there are over a million people between Oshkosh and GB, not to mention the number of Milwaukee fans that come up.

Also, Vegas has thousands of people move there every month, not to mention the millions of visitors. Plus, the downtown is actually the 'rich' part of the city! There are condo towers going up all over the place for millions of dollars.
