Daniel Manning is someone the Bears belive can start in this league, especially with the injuries Mike Brown has faced the last few seasons. He is also gonna compete for the punt returner and kickoff returner jobs along with Devin Hester. I LOVE Devin Hester. This guy is a gamebreaker. He is so fast and so scary with the ball. Everytime he touched the ball at Miami, amazing things happened I was dreaming the Bears would draft a guy like this and I am so happy they did. This guy his gonna pay huge dividends. Filled in the holes in the DB area, added depth on the DL, and snagged JD Runnels late. Runnels is nasty! IMO a steal @ FB that late in the draft. Not only did we address defensive weaknesses, both DBs we did pick up were insane KR/PR in college....another one of our glaring weaknesses last year. Offense was weak in this year's draft. I think the Bears actually had an awsome draft for once. Look on the bright side: without a 1st round pick, we can't have a 1st round bust! He doesn't seem like he like all those other Miami punks. Then again, that's exactly what we say about each of them... I like his potential and I think he is going to pan out. You could see near the end of the season he was starting to pick up things. There is a place in this league for athletes like that. More power to the Bears if they can effectively tap his sick athleticism, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it. But after hearing Angelo's comments today: (Not exact, but close) "We haven't had a TE since Ditka. Why would we look for one now?" That is stoopid, and allows the opposing 'D' to eliminate a coverage. We're 3 deep at RB. Is this draft pick even gonna make it thru camp? Maybe if TJ gets traded. That being said, it's clear they needed DB depth and they should have that in spades now. My worry is that this decision hinges on the OL staying healthy whihc they weren't in 2003-4. gilthorp Posted May 1, 2006 Share Posted May 1, 2006 Robn, I've been in Michigan all weekend, and wasn't around--but am very surprised they went D with their first 5 picks this year. IMO, their two biggest needs were exactly what their needs were last year, and neither year have they addressed them. They really need a LB who can upgrade Hillenmeyer's spot on the field and serve as protection if Briggs can't be signed. They need to improve their passing game and it appears they got suckered off all the TE's this year. Word is that Airese Curry is finally going to see the field this year, and that gives them essentially a 3 year practice player, who has never seen the field. But, they like where he's finally at. I don't understand the first two picks, especially when they both can serve as return specialists--why take 2 when you could have taken only 1. Give me Manning or Hester, but not both. They really needed to get the TE from Notre Dame, or the kid from Georgia--they just didn't go up and grab them like they should have. Give the draft a C for depth and a D for creativity. Look at the success of Oklahoma RBs over the past 4 years: Quentin Griffin, Kejuan Jones, and Adrian Peterson. Sure, these guys had the luxury of nice offensive lines but, JD Runnels blew holes wide open for these guys. His pass protection is phenomenal, as well. Trust me Bears' fans...you will not be disappointed with this FULLback. BTW....who cares about TJ, Benson, and Peterson?! RUNNELS IS A FULL BACK!!!! This guy was born to play football and hurt people. In 2003, Dvoracek and our Pro-Bowler Tommy Harris played side-by-side and ate QBs and RBs for lunch. I think it's awsome that the two of them have the chance to be the insane duo they were at OU together. However, to now do it for our Bears!
