twiley Posted June 2, 2006 Share Posted June 2, 2006 I opened a 99 Opus last Friday. I got hit pretty hard with oak and earth on the initial taste but it eventually smoothed out. It wasn't that bad but IMO it lacked the depth and character that most $150 bottles of wine should have. I picked up some hints of chocolate but they were very weak. I opened a 00 Terra Valentine Cab. afterwards and really liked it. Great nose with blackberry and a touch of earthiness. Nice long but subtle finish. At $50, IMO was much better than the Opus.
