spain
Did they not jerk Eddie George around for a little bit before releasing him as well? 1478585 Uh, no they didnt. they offered him a nice contract and he thought he deserved more. The idiot he had for an agent told him to play hard ball and ask to be released if they werent going to give him more. The titans called his bluff, and he signed with the Cowboys for the same amount the Titans offered. George has since admitted it was a HUGH mistake not to sign with the Titans... Titans did this extact same thing to George, that they're doing with McNair. Asked him to take a pay cut on his existing contract and he said; "Hmmmm... pay cut? No thanks. Instead of a pay cut, I think I'll let you honor the terms of the contract you drew up and I signed." Titans jerked him around by hanging onto him as long as possible before they cut him. He ultimayely signed with Dallas, for twice as much as what the Titans wanted to pay him. AP , NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE Wednesday, Jul 21, 2004 George is under contract through 2006 and was due to make US$4.25 million this season. The Titans asked him in February to rework his contract and paid him a US$1 million roster bonus in March. But the salary cap-strapped Titans, whose woes are only expected to worsen in 2005, need to clear space to sign their 13 draft picks before training camp starts July 31. Smith said they gave the Titans a counteroffer two to three months ago that would have shaved US$3 million from their salary cap, only to see team officials stick close to a proposal of approximately US$1.5 million this season with less money each year through 2006. www.taipeitimes.com Titans are getting a well earned rep, for treating their star players like chit
Big Score 1
The remark about leverage in general not McNair in particular. The date of the release is a bargaining chip and should be used. Common sense. This is a business.1479426 They should use it if it matters. But in this instance it doesn't. After trying to trade with the Titans & being rebuked, it looks like Ozzie is now content to wait it out and get McNair for free. Considering how the Titans have treated George & now McNair, they're getting the well deserved rep for being a chit of an organization. Once McNair was told to stay away and Young was drafted, it was obvious what was going on. They should have started talks that would have gone nowhere, had Steve work out, tag him as no contact and give Volek extra time while trying to trade him. Instead they basically shoved a For Sale sign up his rearend and asked him to like it, then got upset when they where offered a 5th rounder. In two weeks, the 5th rounder will look really good. Ozzie should call them back and offer a 7th.

The brass was out of town but something should have been done before he got there.
Big Score 1
Titans | Arbitrator issues McNair ruling Published Wed May 31 3:45:00 p.m. ET 2006 (KFFL) The Associated Press an arbitrator ruled Wednesday, May 31, that the Tennessee Titans cannot keep QB Steve McNair from working out on their property as long as he has a contract with the team. General Counsel Richard Berthelsen called it a victory for the NFL Players Association and McNair. McNair is under contract for the 2006 season and due a salary of $9 million. Soooo....how long do we think it'll be before Tenn cuts McNair? Could end up that Tenn turning McNair away from the team facilities and then refusing the 5th rounder as offered by the Ravens, was not exactly the smartest chain of events.
