Bucs work out Boston

<May. 19> Boston, looking to catch on with a team after two injury-plagued seasons in Miami, worked out for Buccaneers coaches and officials on Thursday, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Boston, a frist-round pick of the Cardinals in 1999, has played in only five games the last two seasons. The receiver's best season was 2001, when he had 98 receptions for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns.

"I have a lot of respect for what he's done in this league," Bucs coach Jon Gruden said. "He had a couple of seasons where he was one of the most feared football players in the league."

If you watched him on the Chargers and Dolphins, he looked incredibly SLOW out there. Just too big and clunky for the DBs he was matched up against. He was never open.

I read elsewhere the Bucs are considering him at TE. That is, I think, a much more natural position for him these days (if he can man up enough to block -- the reports of him complaining to his teammates about hitting him during practices because of his nipple rings were simply too much).

Gruden has been know to take a risk or two on supposedly washed up WRs...

I snagged him a while ago in my dynasty league on spec-a-lation. I find it hard to believe that you can go from valuable to crap that fast... but I guess it wouldn't be the first time.

I was hoping Denver would pick him up (before they locked down Walker)... I figured if anyone in the league could get him the ball... Plummer knew how to.

From a pure chemistry standpoint, I've got to believe -- but have no evidence other than visual suspicions, that if David Boston's sweat dripped on a teammate, that player wouldn't be able to pass a steroids test for the next decade. :D

2001 was his first and last last good season. It's now 2006. It hasn't been that fast.

Yeah... but he still had a few monster games in 2003. He was just injury plagued... he didn't suck.

Any word on what his weight is at?  His ankles can't support 260 pounds... If he was to drip his weight down to a reasonable size, he might be able to recapture what he had early on his career.

This is exactly right. If he would just stop the juice already. :D David, you're too fuching big. Slim down there roid boy.

A WR built like a brick shyt house=too much.

Believe me when I tell you I am one of the people who have been all for taking a gamble on David Boston almost every season. I had him when he was on the Chargers, and even spot-started him beautifully in the game where he blew up that season (which made the difference in the outcome of my game).

I've been a fan for a while. But at some point, even the fans have to let go. He had a single good season in his entire career, and that was many years ago in football years. He's only older, larger, and a little more off in the head these days.

I remember David when he was at OSU before he stuffed every friggen drug into his body. I have to say as a wr he's done(most likely needs the fork). I think he is a pefect example of why "roids" are a serious risk. I met David on several occasions and what a huge diffrence each time. The first time was his Junior year at OSU and he was by far the best cut football player I had laid eyes on. I then got a chance to see him closeup out in Columbus area after about 3 years in the pros, you could really begin to see the changes. I'm guessing his injuries are roid related...I have heard that you are fine till you get hurt and the roids really hit you in recovery time because of weaken joints and such. I have also heard that some players never recover fully and become a constant injury prone player due to using too many "roids" I suspect that this is what happen to Mr. Boston.I think this is wishful thinking on Grudens part, but hey why not take a chance if you can get him on the chaep. I do believe some of these coaches and gm's are really just looking for a "fantasy" sleeper just like you and I. :D
