YoungBob
I realize it's still only late May, but I always start getting a little excited about fantasy football this time of year. It's usually around now, or a little later, that we start seeing the first magazines and draft guides of the season. Has anyone seen any of them yet? If so, which one(s)? Just curious. Thanks, YB

You can't help but get one of your old favorites just to pass the time until the online stuff is finalized and it's draft time. FF mags are good for one thing...poop material. Just use the pages to wipe afterwards.
YoungBob
I agree the content of a magazine printed today will be nothing but old by draft day, but I just enjoy reading them and getting a little ahead of some others in my league. Having said that, I did hear the first of two Fantasy Sports football magazines (by Krause Publications) were being mailed out to subscibers today. Maybe by the end of the week we'll have our first bathroom reading material. YB
flemingd
I love TSN's College and Pro Football versions. Not the Fantasy version so much, but those others for sure. You won't get dick that can help you prepare for the draft, since rankings are 98% perceptional and based on much more recent (and out-of-date from magazine perspectives) events, but I find good insight into macro things like attitude, character, long-term potential, coaching attitudes/philosophies/views, overall unit strength of key areas like O-line and defense, etc. They come out July 4 weekend every year so are "more up to date" than most as well. Come rankings time, though, they stay in the can where they belong.
Grits and Shins
I agree the content of a magazine printed today will be nothing but old by draft day, 1480873 Correction: Nothing by old the day you purchase it, extremely out of date by draft day. rajncajn
I usually don't buy the fantasy mags, but I will get Athlon or Lindy's NFL preview mags. There is a lot of in depth info there that you would otherwise have to look at every local NFL site to find. When you're in a few dynasty leagues every little bit of info helps. If nothing else it's good bathroom material.

spain
I always encourage my leaguemates in my local leagues to buy as many magazines as possible so they can have alot of up to date info and analysis...

Plus they usually have a cheerleader photo session, FFI will allow you to get a free update on their website if you buy the mag so I use it right before all my drafts. YB 1480873 if you are reading info that is old by the time you get it how does that put you ahead of others 1 thing mags are good for is that if you know your league mates use them then by all means get what they use and you will know what they are doing.... i remember a local draft i had about 5 yrs ago and i went with huddle info and i blacked out with marker all the huddle stuff so they didnt know what i was using but i had 2 mags and i knew what they were doing Edited May 22, 2006 by keggerz
YoungBob
if you are reading info that is old by the time you get it how does that put you ahead of others? The learning curve has to start somewhere and I choose to start mine in June as opposed to August. I enjoy studying the position battles, teams and beginning my draft sheets early. I feel it prepares me better and I don't have to cram just before the draft...like so many. YB
