Out on a Limb

Recommended Posts

Every year there are a handful of players who in preseason are ranked somewhere around 10-20...yet end up in the Top 5-10.

Who's it gonna be in 2006?

My Pick: Domanic Davis...everyone's favorite whipping boy has quietly put together several productive, albeit injury-filled, seasons. Last season, playing in only 11 games (some of which were partials), and in an anemic offense, he produced 1300 combined yards and 6 TDs. When healthy in 2004 (missed one game and parts of two others), he went off for 1700++ yards and 15 TDs.

With a stronger o-line, and the confidence of the organization in his corner, if he is healthy, I see another 1700-1800 yard season, with 12-14 TDs.

Kevin Jones has to rebound. Last year, many "experts" had him winning the NFC rushing title, and John Clayton raved about him in training camp, saying he was the best RB he saw prior to the opening of the season.

I drank the Kool-Aid, drafted him in nearly every league that I could get him, and watched while each team sank like the Titanic...

On the WR front, near the top of the list has to be Andre Johnson, or maybe Michael Clayton. Considering how "good" Galloway was last year, it is hard to figure how Clayton regressed so far, so fast. It's not like he was playing for the Texans (like Johnson, with the fore-mentioned anemic offense).

I picked DD, should have also given honerable mention status to Julius Jones...if everything comes together around him, he could be in for a monster year, regardless of Marion Barber's inclusion.

At WR, Joe Horn is going to be a great value, and could easily end up with Top 10 stats.

And at QB, the sexy names are Bledsoe & Warner, but both have been ranked in Top 10's in various places. I'm looking for that jewel. Someone who can toss the rock, has multiple weeapons, a great running game, and a coach who will let him thrive.....gotta be Chris Simms.

QB: Donivan McNabb (I think people forget how good he was without TO, and under-rate him) and Drew Bledsoe (He may be a statue, but he has a better O-line than last year, and better WR corps)

RB: Dominic Davis and Brian Westbrook. If you project both of these guys poionts over a 16 game season they were top 5-7 particularly in leagues that give points for reception. The key here is for them to stay relatively healthy.

WR: Micheal Clayton (a lot of people were down on him last year but forget that he played the whole year injured) and Earnest Wilford.

TE: The top 5 TE's are already pretty well set. I think Kellen Winslow may be forgotten by some, in some leagues. Another that I think will suprise but not reach Elite status is Earnie Conwell. Brees likes going to the TE, and his arm strength probably ins't what it was before the surgery, so I can see Conwell getting a lot of looks.

I hope you're right on JJ, but i don't quite see it...not yet anyway. I just don't see him getting the majority of the goal-line carries, which is what he will need to have a monster year.

QB-  Leftwich

RB - Dillon

WR - Givens

I can't put players like Dominic Davis or Chester Taylor on this list because they won't be sleepers come draft time.

Good call on Lefty. I don't think the question was really about sleepers so much as those ranked 10-20 that might break into the top 5

Gore is not the one to watch in SF.

IMO, Hicks is a MONSTER waiting to happen, you heard it here first...

I agree with Brees liking the TE, but you got the wrong one, it will be Hilton.

Old Moulds?

I doubt it, but it'd be nice to watch him succeed. He was on my team the last two years.

He's in Houston now, and I just think that most of the d-back attention will be on Andre Johnson, allowing Carr to find a veteran with sure hands to dump to in Moulds.

Well, I am not so sure Brees likes TE's..but when you have Gates you have no choice but to like TE's...I highly doubt we see that much of a increase if at all from the TE position in N.O.

Eh. Hicks is a mediocre talent, weighs barely 200 pounds, and has not been able to beat out anyone there. He's a very solid backup in the NFL, nothing more.
