Duchess Jack
All this Ricky Williams stuff got me wondering... Do Canadians actually watch Canadian Football? Is there a big following? Any bigger than EuroNFL? Is NFL football still drastically more popular than the CFL?
Annihilator
I'm From Montreal and i do watch CFL and NFL ..I do enjoy NFL much more but CFL is a different game and has a More wide open element ..but with defense still a factor ...Fits inbetween Arena and NFL I think if people give the CFL a chance its maybe the 2nd best league as for football goes I'm waiting for the wise Cracks now but its ok ..Still enjoy both Edited May 28, 2006 by Annihilator

The Darkside
nfl is number 1 to me but the cfl gives me something to watch in between the end of the hockey season and the beginning of the nfl season. plus for pro sports it is very reasonable to go to. my wife and her familiy went to a eskimos game last season for under 80.00 if you like lots of scoring and not much defence then the cfl is for you. Retrograde assault
There is no substitute for the NFL.
Chargerz
Doesn't the CFL have drug testing?? If it does, Ricky's gonna be in trouble again!!
Raider.Nation
The CFL is far and away the best 2nd option to the NFL. NFL Europe is so boring to watch, don't know what it is. I just don't get anything out of watching a game. The CFL is a completely different game (kinda like the Arena league) but without the hokiness of the Arena League. No hockey boards, no back wall to play off of, just good old football with a couple small twists in the scoring format. And with the field being longer, and wider it makes for much more open plays. The play calling has to be more creative than the NFL's, based on the fact that these guys only play with 3 downs on a much bigger field. IMHO. #1. NFL obvious #2. CFL #3. NFLE #4. Arena League is just too out there for me. Might as well watch an XFL game.
Donutrun Jellies
Do Canadians actually watch Canadian Football? 1490044[/snapback] I'm just 10 miles south of the border and have been up to Montreal to see a CFL game ... The place was packed so I thought we were in for a grand day, but it was far different from seeing a game at Heinz or Foxboro. The fans seemed more interested in chatting/fighting amongst themselves and trying to bum cigarettes from one another so they could chainsmoke non-stop. Scores and turnover would happen and there'd be little notice -- "oh, hey, we got the ball back, how'd that happen, eh?" Maybe we picked a bad day and a bad section of the crowd ... but it turned us off from repeated visits to Molson Field. Then again, Ricky may become a hero of the disinterested smoking crowd -- as he's in a cloud of smokey disinterest most of the time as well!! Unfortunately, given the long, sad history of the franchise here the team has once again folded. Not one winning season in 25 years. As for the comments about the Montreal fans, as compared to those in Pittsburgh or Boston, I can't necessarily disagree. I've been to Boston twice to see games and was at Heinz field three years ago. I don't think anyone rivals the Steeler fans, and NE fans are into it as long as their team is good (and the Red Sox aren't winning it all). However, I gotta say that grading the fan base is more of a city to city or game to game thing rather than a league to league thing. In the CFL, out west in places like Edmonton or Regina, the following is hard core. In the NFL, while I've been very impressed with places like Pittsburgh and Kansas City, I was less than impressed by many of the fans in Chicago two years ago. I know they sellout but can you sit your asses down when the game is going on?? They seemed more concerned with getting their beers and popcorn than with what was happening on the field.....and this was against the hated Vikings. I love the NFL myself. And I enjoy the CFL too. But regardless of the league, the people in the stands vary greatly from place to place.

Raider.Nation
Onterrio in Blue&Gold is going to be bigger than Ricky in T.O. Onterrio steps in for Keith Stokes. Ricky will have to battle with Jon Avery for the starting job. Don't get me wrong, clearly Ricky is the better of the 2. But it's a much different game, don't know that he'll be an immediate impact as a full time starter up here. At least Onterrio Smith walked into a sitc where's he still the clear no2, not 1! Less pressure, more of a role player which will aid the team and him personally...
nuke'em ttg
used to like watchin Warren Moon in the cfl............wayyyyy back :doah:
rebdog
i saw Moon play here a few times. those were the days when it seemed like the CFL wasn't far behind the NFL.....at least it could sometimes seem that way. i still remember the first NFL preseason game that Moon played in for the Houston Oilers after signing. It was against Dallas and Joe Namath was doing the game. I don't know why but Namath seemed to almost have some kind of grudge against Moon. I remember him saying "this isn't Canada". And not until his performance at the Meadowlands did I think he could look like a bigger idiot. I guess everyone has to prove themselves but anyone who'd seen Moon play in the CFL knew that he was one of the best. The guy spent five years tearing up the CFL just so the NFL would give him a chance. Obviously it was because he was a black QB. I'm just glad the CFL was there to give him the opportunity.
