"Flex" position

Our league added a flex position this year, RB/WR/TE. Wanted to ask those that are in leagues with this position, did you draft to fill it or just try to build depth and play matchups off your bench? Are you better off with a 2nd tier WR or a 3rd tier RB?

Definitely RB, if you can draft the depth and use it every week.

 

However, it often ends up being a WR, since your RBs have byes, get injured more frequently, and, most importantly, you'll have more depth at WR to fill the spot.

 

Drafting for it is nearly impossible, though I went Rb-Rb-RB with my first three picks last year, and was lucky that my 3rd RB was LJ, and was able to start a pretty good 3-headed RB corps every week.

I draft for that position. I want a RB simply because of the # of touches per game. I'd prefer to have a QB at flex because of the # of touches but I've never seen QB as a flex option.

It gives you a lot more flexibility in the draft as you can draft your 3rd RB earlier and utilize that player in the flex as well as give yourself a very solid backup for bye and injuries, while you can get a serviceable WR much later in the draft to fill in when the #3 RB is not available.

 

Only time to focus on getting a WR in that position is in a league that has reception points, then it becomes a much tougher decision each week, though I still tend to go with the RB if he is a primary RB for his team, and go with the WR if it is a player that will get 4-5 catches (that equals 40-50 yards in many scoring systems, so hard for an RB splitting time to keep up with the WR in that situation)

Depends on scoring - specificly points for receptions or not. If points for receptions, then WR, if not, then RB.
