The others have solid or veteran backs in front of them, and I don't consider Rhodes to qualify in that assesment. Williams, Maroney and Bush will put up some #'s for sure, but I look for Addai to be the better option in a redraft this year and all to be good picks dynasty wise. Big Country Posted June 10, 2006 Share Posted June 10, 2006 I don't particular care for any of the rookie RBs, in a sense of needing to count on one of them to produce for me as an RB1 or RB2 this season. As PD noted, all are going into less than ideal situations in terms of veteran RBs in place, etc. THat said, if I had to gamble on one for this season, I think it would be DeAngelo Williams, mainly because of Foster's continued propensity for injury. Wizards Posted June 11, 2006 Share Posted June 11, 2006 Definitely believe Addai has "one" on the best situations to make a big impact in 2006. But we did say rookie RB's and not just 1st rounders? Believe if Titans deal Brown (even if they don't) White stands a chance fantasy wise of putting more points per game average up than even Addai...long-term/Dynasty really like PJ Daniels (4th rounder/#132 pick), a power runner out of Ga. Tech and he catches passes out of the backfield very well!!! Could be a 3rd down RB this year, as well any injury to Lewis is very capable than any of the first rounders of being an every down back!!!! You will know his name in the near future IMO!!!!!!! Like DeAngelo too....but Foster has propensity to do well enough to limit him or create an RBBC for a few years in Carolina ala Davis /Foster...... Every year we see FF owners who think that the top 4-5 RBs will be great RBs in the NFL - every one of them. And almost every year - with one exception, at least 2 of the top 5 RBs are busts. This year Addai is on the top of my list as being the most probable bust of the top 5 RBs chosen. Everyone points at his situation as being great, but the guy still has to be capable of playing at the NFL level. Last year people were pimping Arrington because he was going to a great situation, but he wasn't capable of playing as a featured RB in the NFL. This year that's the situation Addai is in. Everyone is raving that he'll have little competition at RB - despite Rhodes having done very well as the featured RB in IND in 2001, when he put up over 1100 yds rushing in 13 games, and his 4.5 ypc career average and 7.2 ypr. Addai runs much smaller & slower than his size & combine times show - his raw talent doesn't translate onto the football field well. He also has an injury history from college. He's the classic guy who looks great in minicamps in Ts & shorts, but when the pads are on he disappears. If you're looking for a guy who could put up great numbers his freshman year, look at DeAngelo Williams. He can do almost everything Foster can do and a lot that Foster can't, and he loves to carry the ball - he'll take 30 touches a game. Combine that with Foster's fragile body & you have a great opportunity for a team that is very strong on both sides of the ball. The situation is totally different, Indy is a fantasy producing machine..the Cardinals were a place RB's went to die. That being said, I am also not sold on Addai despite owning him in 1 league. I do think he is in the best situation to produce, but I don't consider him or any other RB taken this year as anything close to sure things. He put up huge numbers at Cal, he was playing in a Denny Green O, he had no competition at RB for the featured spot, the AZ passing game was going to create big running lanes for him. Arrington in the preseason was being pimped as the RB in the best spot for rookie production - Cadillac was going to RBBC maven Gruden with Pittman & TD vulture Alstott still lurking, Benson had to go head-to-head with Thomas Jones & he held out, Ronnie Brown had Ricky looking over his shoulder after 4 games into the season. Again - disclaimer that I do own Calhoun in a FF league I think Calhoun is in a great spot. He can fill the Faulk role for Martz (please note - I didn't say Calhoun was the next Faulk) as he can absorb a lot of touches, he is as effective catching out of the backfield as he is running, and he can line up in different spots effectively. Jones has been a disappointment so far, and if he stumbles early on at all, I could see Calhoun sweeping in & stealing Jones' spot quickly with a capability of putting up some very solid to good numbers. Oh, now I do agree he was bumped up the list. it was because he was supposed to be the undisputed starter. but everyone knew he was going into a horrible situation despite being the starter. you know how it is in fantasy, even the bad starting RB's are important. this situation is different because whoever ends up the starter on Indy WILL be a stud. just not sure that is gonna be Addai. It is funny you mention Calhoun. I recently took him AND Addai in the same draft. I had Kevin Jones already and wanted to handcuff the situation so I grabbed Calhoun at 2.1. If I had not had Jones I would of went with Norwood though. That being said, another reason I took both Calhoun and Addai is because they are already polished recievers out of the backfield. which should get them on the field enough to show what they can do. I may stick my foot in my mouth, but I thought Emmitt Smith did fairly well in Zona. The OL and the RB go hand in hand and can make the other look better, or more productive than first thought.
