irish
I have to disagree here a little. It all depends on your financial situation I guess. I'm already filled to the hilt with $$ leagues and could use to get into a couple free ones. I think as a fantasy junkie as we all are how could anyone mind being in a couple free leagues just to play and fill the void. Although I'm not big on keeper leagues. I guess if you had some friends that you wanted to start a free league with it'd be ok,but when you get involved with people that you don't know and their team sucks by week 3 and they quit submitting a lineup....no thanks. Good point. I was going to say how this could be a problem. It sucks how you can't trust people to follow through with playing out their team for the season if their team is bad. I happen to have been playing FF for 11 years and have a guy that just joined who has been at it for 15. In a free league, when you lose , at least it doesn't hurt so bad. Most of you guys won't win any money anyway. Besides , I am a man of my word whether you know me or not. I built it , i'll play !

smithkt
I'll try to give you a reasonable response.... Even for something as simple as fantasy football, trust has to be earned. I think you have to understand why people might not be willing to take you at your word when you say you are a solid, stand up guy. You are asking people to invest their time, which to most has value, in a keeper league. Nobody here knows who you are. Participate and become part of the community and I think you will find more people willing to play in a league like this. There will always be those who simply say "free leagues suck" and frankly, that's not your target audience, so those should be easily ignored. No offense intended to those people. That is their choice and I'll respect it. Good luck.

Hugh 0ne
I actually did a Scientific study on this, and came up with the following results: The failure rate for free leagues is 82.36% higher than that of a pay league. The failure rate for a free league made up of anonymous people is 76.39% higher than the already high failure rate of free leagues mentioned above. Can't argue with facts. darin3
Another thing to consider here.... this is a KEEPER league? You are setting yourself up to a bunch of headaches with potential flakey owners.

I'll need to see the data so I can run it through some of my own algorithms and confirm your results.

(and im not a big fan of free leagues, but not the point i am trying to make here) When someones 1st post is about joining thier league and how we can trust you, it doesn't look good for you and will not get any interest. Hang out here for awhile, learn from the people that have been here a long time, post occasionally and learn what this place is all about before posting a "join me league its great and you can trust me" when no one knows you. Just my 2 cents

smithkt
PM sent. Facinating. I can confirm Hugh's numbers within a reasonable tolerance. The only outlier in the data was fee leagues made up completely of people who have known each other long enough to have developed such an inate competitive fire amongst the group, that the ability to rag on everybody for a year about their superior ability supercedes the need for cold hard cash. OK , you guys made your point, It is true you don't know me . Maybe free leagues do suck , however although I have played in other peoples leagues ( always free ) this is my first attempt at running one. I do have people who have joined for free and I intend to keep it that way as to not let them down. I myself may pay for some extra features for my entire league , but will not ask others to. As to not knowing me , that can start here. My name is Todd Bowman , I am 39 years old , on my 3rd marriage of 13 years , 2 children by my 1st wife - 1 daughter 19 years old and married that just recently made me a grandfather & 1 son 17 years old. I live in NC , but was born and raised in SW Virginia ( a small factory town ) , I did graduate high school but never attended college. Instead , I joined the navy where I spent 4 years poking holes in the ocean in the submarine force on a ballistic missile sub during the closing years of the cold war & the 1st gulf war. I am currently unemployed with 2 herniated disk in my neck and facing possible surgery. How is that for a start ? I also have a couple of quotes for you , then I'll shut up for now. " The able men are not those seeking the easy things in life, rather they are those who seek and carry out to a finality the things which are difficult ! " ( unknown ) and " One Man with Courage is a Majority " ( Andrew Jackson ) That said , I still have spots open in my league. Thanks guys !
