Where do the Steelers stand now?

broken jaw.. and well, face.. they said his knees were just scraped pretty bad, no ligament damage. if thats the case then he should play this year.. not sure if he will be ready for the 1st couple games. they say 7 weeks to heal the jaw.. 12 weeks until the opener. who knows.. its not just a simple broken jaw however, he was in a bad accident with other injuries. so its too early to speculate. he knows how to play through pain and is pretty tough.

They will be OK. if he does miss any games, hopefully for Steeler fans it won't be many. the Steelers have plenty of other excellent players who can still get the job done.

You are apparently unfamiliar with Charlie Batch & that Omar Jacobs is probably not NFL ready yet.

As a Lions fan I am very familiar with Batch :D

Then again I am familiar with the great offensive line and great defense of Pittsburgh as well. and I realize that the QB is just 1 player. the Steelers will be OK. Big Ben may not miss any games anyways..we will have to wait and see on that.

Seriously, I hope this Jacobs kid works out for them because Batch blows. The Steelers go nowhere with him at the helm.

I doubt Batch could make half a season healthy. if something happens to Big Ben to where he can't play. I would expect as DMD said and them to offer Collins a deal.

If that happened, I would expect Collins to hold the fort down until Ben could come back.

I'd rather take our chances with Batch than bring Collins in. Unless Collins is going to start drinking again. He was much better when he was a drunk.

I can see batch throwing a pass and his whole arm flying across the field instead of the ball. Batch is no doubt a good influence in the clubhouse, but I don't believe for a minute they would go into the season with him as the starter. Pitt's O-line was made for a QB like Collins, he would have time to see his options and has a gun. and would not have to run very often. not to mention..who else is there out there right now?

On ESPN they keep showing the hospital and all the people there.

I half expect to see Lee Harvey Oswald walk out and get shot again.

I bet he starts Week 1. Manning broke his jaw in a game vs. Miami, missed one play and came back into the game. He played with his jaw wired shut. Reggie Miller played in the play-offs with a broken orbital bone in his face. He didn't like the face shields, so he wore a pair of gold Oakley sunglasses. I'm not sure what good that would have done.

While Ben's surgeries are more severe, he also has three months to heal. As long as his knees are fine, he'll play He may have to wear one of those old school defensive lineman facemasks that look like a tractor-trailor grill, but he'll be all right.

I just came from that area a few minutes ago and it is crazy down there. I can not believe how many people seem to be setting up camp out in the street.

Man do I like to think this is on the money. You are certainly a glass half full kind of guy.
