I waffled back and forth between gas and charcoal and ultimately decided to get the best charcoal grill around in the Big Green Egg rather than some half assed gas one that was nearly as expensive.

I gotta say that the Egg is even a step above and beyond any charcoal grill I have ever experienced!

Because I don't have a BGE, I have 3 grills: One offset firebox, one propane grill, one charcoal weber.

Dress it up anyway ya like it, but a gas grill is a gas grill. I will always-always be a charcaol man-always. I find the urban-yuppie Rosie O'Donnell flock to these stainless steel flashy grills. When I'm at a cook-out and the host ask me..."What do you think of my grill?" If it's a gas grill....I tell'em.."it's for amatuers and they suck, no matter how much stainless steel is on it and no matter what you paid for it." They tend to be taken back abit, but understand when they come to my house for a cook-out.

No offense but I'd take Sundaynfls grill over your red oak anyday. :D

My Urban Yuppie Pusslie grill can beat up your charcoal grill anyday! :D But I agree with you on charcoal for finishing my steaks off... but this grill gives it a great sear!

Best steak-lover's grill (Money Magazine)

Golden Blount Texas Sizzler II ($3,295; goldenblountinc.com; 800-833-1139). Wondering why your backyard steaks never quite match up to the ones at your local steakhouse? One reason is that steakhouse broilers get a lot hotter than conventional gas grills, most of which top out at 600º or 700º. But the Texas Sizzler II uses infrared ceramic burners, an expensive but increasingly popular technology that can heat the grill all the way to 1,600º, ideal for getting that quick sear that seals in the juices. This isn't the best grill for chicken, fish or vegetables--you're liable to incinerate them. But for the serious beef addict with the passion (and the cash) to do things right, this is the grill industry's equivalent of a prime, dry-aged T-bone.

I also have a Bradley smoker that I use at home, friends, in the mountains or tailgating... I used to have a homemade side box smoker, but love the convenience of this smoker: Bradley smoker

And a small charcoal grill and a large one that doubles as a big fire pit.

PD you can bring the chicken and burgers for the charcoal grill! But make sure the burgers are Kobe for the Yuppies! :D

I think PD was just trying to tell us that he likes his charcoal grill and may not have cooked on a good big shiny stainless...

But I can't wait for the first "From the Crockpot" when he shows us his new charcoal powered crockpot! :D

I guess he could go with a Dutch Oven that I use camping or hunting! :D

no. he was saying that propane is amateurish and that the best isn't as good as charcoal.
