billay
My wife and I are getting a rare night on the town to celebrate her getting a new job and both our successful exits from the hospitality industry. I want to crack open a good bottle of wine to help us celebrate. Here are our choices: 1. Briggaldara Amarone 1997 - Rich, jammy fruit, lots of berry and currant, chewy, MEdium to full body with silky tannins 2. Paolo Bea Sagrantino di Montefalco, 2000 - Similar flavor profile to the Amarone, but more potent. Hints of cherry and chocolate, a smooth sweet finish. The next two I have yet to taste. Hoping one of you has... 3. Emidio Pepe's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, 2000 - Don't know a thing about it, except my buddy the sommellier says its good stuff 4. Parusso Testone, 2001 - 100% Cabernet, which is unusual for Parusso. Origianlly they were using the cabernet vines as blending grapes for a number of their wines. The decided to pull up the cab for something else, but on the last harvest, made this wine. It only had one run, so its a little unique. I don't know anything about how it tastes.... My wife and I would probably be happy with all of them. The Briggaldara is probably closest to its peak. Any thoughts? twiley
I'm big on the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Even the cheap bottles taste good. I'd go with that one.
billay
I'm big on the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Even the cheap bottles taste good. I'd go with that one. I did and it was wonderful! Very light but with crisp fruit and earthiness, and a very drawn out finish with what i can best describe as green pepper. It was quite good!
