A. Lelie skips mandatory mini-camp

Recommended Posts

ESPN is reporting that Ashlie Lelie is now skipping the Broncos last mandatory mini-camp, and may sit out of Training Camp too in an effort to get himself traded.

Denver shopped him around but couldn't find anybody interested in their asking price. This could cost him a lot of money if he tries to play hardball with Denver. He is still making his rookie salary of $600k, and he can be fined for missing mini-camp and each day of Training Camp if that's his strategy.

Fork please.

For a guy that really hasn't done squat, this seems pretty ballsy and dumb. I don't know what the chances of him being a #1 or #2 on another team are, but with Smith's age and Walker's injury, it seems like he would get another realistic shot at being a starting WR in Denver.

No lie. After the kind of season he had last year, he should be thankful he still has a job and working his butt off to improve his game while he still can. He needs the Broncos a lot more than they need him.

LOL. 1st candidate for the T.O. moron award this year is.... Ashley Lelie!

He sits & postures with Shanahan before the draft about how he's not being given a fair shot at the #1 WR spot & gets called on his bluff. Shanahan starts out looking for a #1 pick for Lelie, goes to a #2 pick before the draft starts, and then drops his demands all the way to a 4th rounder from HOU - to reunite Lelie with his former O coordinator and now HOU HC Gary Kubiak - and Kubiak doesn't even sniff at the offer. In the meantime, Shanahan snaps up Javon Walker for a 2nd rounder, putting Lelie at the #3 WR spot at best going into this season, and essentially negating the effects of any Lelie holdout.

Belichek didn't want Lelie straight up for TE Daniel Graham despite the plethora of TEs in NE after the draft and the lack of quality WRs, calling Lelie a one-dimensional player, which he clearly is.

It would almost be sad if it weren't so damn funny watching this idiot keep drinking his own kool-aid & killing his own very mediocre career so far.

Um, if you want to be the #1 WR, get your ass in there and prove you even deserve playing time behind Walker and Smith. This stiff has done nothing on the field thus far in his career, and is living off the 1st round status the Bronco's gave him.

Wow, what a great player to target as your #1 wr. This guy would rather be a #1 wr than a starting wr on a team that reached the afc title game last year. I guess winning is not so important to this bonehead. Everyone is looking for a wr that doesn't care about winning, only me first. Now maybe Shanny should just trade him to Detroit, I'm sure Matt Millen could use another wr with high expectations and a lousy attitude. That would work except Detroit has no one to trade except... hmm... no one to trade. I am not sure I could name a team where Lelie would be the #1 wr.

He's like Az Hakim, but without all that talent.

If two of the most successful coaches in the NFL and your former offensive coordinator aren't that interested in you, then that should tell you something, especially when all three of those coaches could use some depth at WR.
